Aged lady Is Dead. Merrill and Linton, the undertakers, were called to Cedar Lake yesterday to rescue the body of Mrs. Amelia Buclioltz, a farmer resident of that place, who died in Chicago on Tuesday from cancer, aged 77 years. The burial of the remains took place at the Brunswick cemetery beside the body of her husband, who died some years ago. The couple were well and favorably known throughout the country at the time of their residence here.
Housekeepers Meet. The Housekeepers' club met at the home of Mrs. Fred Wheeler on Court Street yesterday and injoyed a very pleasant afternoon. Instead of "rag-

al and made his escape. A conductor on an E. J. and E. frleght found the lad stealing a ride on his train and knowing that the boy was running away from .hime, he delivered him to Marshal John Taylor to hold until the
boy's father could come and get him.
Word was sent to the parent at Joliet by the Conductor who knew him and the boy, -apparently resigned to his
fate, went with the marshal. Shortly afterwards as they were passing a dark grove in the dusk of the evening the boy darted into the woods and disappeared. Marshal Taylor has been hunting for him since, but without success. The boy's father Is expected
on the Michigan Central this main-

The Universal Club Is about to start
a tennis tournament at their grounds
as soon as they are completed on Washington street, near Fifth avenue.
The grounds are made of clay and there are two double courts. It is expected that they will be finished wlth-

Harbor Belt line into the site for For

has been in process of construction for
the past week, was finished today.
Work on their buildings will begin

The first whistle has been changed from the electric plant to the Lake County Ice and Cold Storage plant.
The old electric plant has been out of commission for a few days and if there had been a fire, the firemen could not

Teachers Taking New Roles. Word has been reaching Whiting that many of the ex-Whiting school teachers are entering upon the sea of matri
mony. Miss Campbell, who went to
the Hawaii islands last year to teach
has been married to an English mis
sionary. Miss Campbell was a kinder
garten teacher here and was very popular.
Miss Fisher, who two years ago was fifth grade teacher here, has also
been recently married. It is reported
that Miss Nancy Waite, who was for
several years a teacher here, will be
married soon to a young man from
Tacoma, Wash. Two other weddings,
implicating Whiting school teachers, which is of much interest to the people here, is that of Miss Mary Stoerleln to
Alexander M. Hamilton, which will take
place in September. Miss Stoerlein has been English teacher here in the high
school for several years. The other
wedding is that of Miss Anna Kline to
Professor Robert Lee Hughes, which
will take place in about a month.
This is attracting more than the
usual amount of attention for both parties are ex-instructors in the local schools. Miss Kline was a teacher in
the eight grade for about ten years
until last year which she spent in
Seattle, Wash., and Professor Hughes
was superintendent of the local schools
for several years until 1902 when he went to Chicago to teach, where he has
since been located.

a visit to her parents at Lamar, Colo. Through the courtesy of Jesse Hay-
den, the correspondent was treated to a fine ride in his automobile Thursday night. We took a spin of about ten miles in about as many minutes. We enjoyed it to the extreme, if it did take us about twonty-four hours to pick the gravel out of our eyes. His
