DOUBLE WEDDIXG IS PLAXNED. Four of Hammona's most popular young people, will be the principals In a double wedding which will take place in this city July 20. The contracting parties the Charles E. C. Payne, one of the managers of a local department store and Miss Leona Puerr of Harvey. 111. The othe couple is Alfred A. Sherby and Mias Hazel Klnfrvrill. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Kingwill. Mr. Sherby will be the best man at the Payne Duerr wedding, which will take place at St. Paul's Episcopal church In the morning. Th SheibyKingwill wedding will take place at the rectory of All Saint's church after the other wedding. After the nuptial affair the two couples will form a party which will leave Hammond In the Payne-Sherby motor boat "Bon Anne" for a month's cruise on Lake Michigan. This is a 32 foot yacht equipped with awenty horsepower engines. The cabin will furnish sleeping accommodations for ten people. Mr. Payne and his bride-to-be will be at home after Sept 1, at 715 Wilcox avenue, where he has built a new house. FORMER RESIDENTS HERE. Mr. and Mrs. AV. H. B. Menzies of Kalamazoo, Mich., are in Hammond on a few days' business and pleasure visit. They came Friday and expect to return home tonight. Mr. and Mrs. Meuzies formerly lived in Hammond and have a large acquaintance of friends. EXJOY RIVER PARTY. A number of Hammond young people enjoyed a pleasant river trip In Mr. Leytze's leectric launch, "Nohma," to Blue Island, last week. Those In the party were Mr. and Mrs. "William Leytze. Misses Mae Powers, Lizzie Martin. Anna Stolley, Ethel Cole and Mary Homak. Messrs. Harvey Roop. Frank Seestadt, Wilbur and George Powers. ATTENDS HOUSE PARTY. Miss Marguerite Turner of Rimbach avenue, left this noon for Decatur. Ind.. where she will be a guest at a house party for the remainder of the week. ENTERTAINS AT PORCH PARTY. The young people who had planned on a picnic at Hart's Ditch south of Hammond. Saturday, had to postpone, it on account of the rain, but were delightfully entertained at the home of Carl Griffin in Ogden street. At noon a picnic lunch wae served after which the young people enjoyed music and various out of door amusements. The porch was decorated appropriately to the Fourth .of July, with red, white and blue bunting and flags. Among those in the party were: Misses Mary and Anna Ibach. Ruth Sohl, Irene Mott. Florence Loveridge. Norma I-ocklin, Mary Krost. Marion Doming. Messrs. Carl Griffin. Charles Deming, J -r. Sawyer, Harvey Gostlin. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis H. Gregg and Master George Gregg, their son; Mr. and Mrs. C. Ward Eicher. Mr. L. Offert. of Greensburg, Pa., who are on their way to Denver. Colo., as guests of the general manager of the Wabash railroad, in his private car, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Hudson, 46 Warron street, yesterday. With them came Mrs. George W. Good, also of Greensburg, Mrs. Hudson's mothter, who will remain here for a week as her guest. Mrs. Gregg is a sister of Mrs. Hudson and will also visit in Hammond on her return from the National Democratic convention. Mir. Gregg is a delegate from Pennsylvania and Mr. Eicher i3 an alternate. Mr. Hudson is one of the right hand men to the officials of the Standard Steel Car compiny of this city. FOURTH AT COUNTRY HOME. F. R. Seha.if. county central chairman with his wife, spent the Fourth at his rretty cottage at Pine Lakp, LaPorte, where he has one of thr finest places on the lake. Mr. Sehaaf was recently elected p. member of the Coutry Club at that place, its aristocratic organization, and is lsarning to foozle splendidly. RACK FROM SOUTH AMERICA. Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Church, of Lima, Peru. S. A., are expected back from that country pomo time this month and after visiting friends in New York, are expected in Hammond. Mr. Church is consulting engineer of the U. S. Metals refinery and is well known here. Mrs Church was formerly Miss Florence Albe and is a sister of L. L. Bomberger and Mrs. C. L. Surprise. GUESTS FROM DETROIT. Mr. and Mrs. Kramer and children of Detroit. Mich., were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Giles ..Warner of Carroll aVVcv for the past few days. LEAVE TODAY FOR THE EAST. Mrs. Morris Dobson and children left this morning fnr the Fast where they will spend several weeks at Far Rock away beach. They will stop at Niagara Falls. Buffalo and Syracuse. N. Y., for several rays' visit, while in New York one of the children will undergo an operation for her eye. THE TIMES
DRIED APPLE CAKE. Soak a cup and a half dried or evaporated apples over night in cold water, then stew soft the day before using in a half cupful of molasses. Cream together one cup sugar and half cup butter. Add twothirds of a cup of sour milk, then the apples. And next two well beaten eggs, a teaspoonful cloves, two teaspoonfuls cinnamon, a grating of nutmeg and three cupfuis flour sifted three times over with a half teaspoonful soda. Mix thoroughly, using the hands. Have ready one cupful seeded raisins, two-thirds cupful currants and a little shredded citron. A few finely chopped butternut or hickory nut meats are an addition. Put a layer of the batter in a paper lined cake tin, then sprinkle in some of the fruit and nut mixture. Follow with the dough, then more fruit, and so on, having the batter at the top. Bake in a Blow bread oven, covering the cake with a buttered paper if inclined to brown too fast on top.

Seeley and Mr. and Mrs. Hastings and two daughters left for Benton Harbor by boat Fridayevening and spent the holidays with Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. Rexstraw of that city. WILL MOVE FROM HAMMOND. Mrs. T. E. Wilson and daughter, Marjorie, expect to leave Hammond this week for California, where they will make their home in the future. Mr. Wilson left Hammond a few weeks ago to make the final arrangements. Mrs. Wilson is a sister of Mrs. W. G. Paxton of this city and has made her home on Williams street for the past year. DRIVE TO CEDAR LAKE. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Paxton and daughter, Carolyn, Mrs. T. E. Wilson and daughter, Marjorie, Mrs. Emma Cosgrove and Miss Grace Stolley drove to Cedar Lake Saturday in Paxton's machine and spent the day. ENTERTAINS CHICAGO FRIENDS. Miss K. G. Rellley entertained a few friends from Hammond and Chicago at a 6 o'clock dinner Saturday evening at her home In South Hohman street. Among the guests were Misses Jennie Sheffield, Dorothy Eschenbach and Joellet Perkins; Messrs. Harry K. White. Pierce, Thompson and Jenkins.

The First German Evangelical church will hold its annual picnic at Douglas Park on the north side. The congregation of this church is from Whiting. RETURN FROM PLEASANT VISIT. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. McEwen, 145 Carroll street, returned this morning with her tivo daughters, from a pleasant over-Sunday outing spent with relatives in Peoria, 111. VIITING FRIENDS HERE. Mrs. Herman Hockelberg and daughter Lydia, and son George, arrived in Hammond yesterday over the Wabash railroad, from Cliffride Park. O.. to visit relatives here and in Crown Point for two months. Mr. Hockelberg, known all over Lake county as the big drum major, expects to join them later for a short time. VISITED AT COLUMBIA LODGE. Messrs. Frank and Charles? A pretty 5 course dinner was served at 4 o'clock amidst pretty red, white and blue table decorations. Many pretty and valuable presents were showered upon little Earl. A most interesting decoration at the dinning table was a large rake frosted in red, white and blue, with the name of Earl in large letters. Three candles of red, white and blue burning brightly amongst the flags upon it. Bryan practically sole remaining entrant in race for presidential nomination, as managers of John A. Who Will Assist Father Plaster. Rev. Anton Badina, the new assistant at St. Joseph's church, successor to Rev. Bruno Soentgen, offiicated for the first time in St. Joseph's church and manv of the congregation turned out to see and hear the young man. Father Badina was ordained on June 14 at St. Minrad in Indiana, was immediately assigned to Hammond bv Bishop Alerdlng. Father Badin.-x was ordained in Alsaace. Germany, but he made all of his studies in this country. He said low mass yesterdav morning and preached an English sermon in high mass. The parishioners expressed themselves as highly pleased with the new assistant to Father Plaster. LOOK FOR 10-YEAR-OLD BOY. The police this morning received a message from the chief of police at Huntington In which they were requested to look out for a 10-year-old boy by the name of Redinger, who ran away with a boy by the name of Engleman. Should he bo found the Huntington police desire to be notified. GLASS WINDOW BROKEN. A plate glass window was broken in the saloon of August Newman on State street at 4 o'clock this morning. An officer on his beat heard the sound of breaking glass and hurried tlie scene, but no one was to be found in the vicinity. Newman thinks it was the work of some one who wanted to get even with him.
