A program of games will be enjoyed during the evening and a very pleasant time is anticjpated. EASTERN STAR MEETING. A meeting of the order of Eastern Star was held last evening In the Masonic Temple. The meeting was attended by only twenty members, who spent the hour with drill work. There will be invitation at the next meeting in two weeks and it is desired that there be a good attendance of members.

The members of the junior class of the Hammond high school will give their annual reception and banquet to the seniors this evening in Fraternity hall. The class has decorated the hall very elaborately with pennants and class colors. In the early evening a music program will be rendered after which an elaborate banquet will be served. Encouraging News to Manufacturers Shown by Monthly Report. The people of Hammond will be Jn' terested in knowing that each suc
ceeding monthly report of the Ameri
can railway association shows that the number of idle cars is being greatly reduced. Of course this means that the car manufacturers will soon have to begin the manufacture of new cars and it means renewed activity for the manycar building concerns in this region. A decrease of more than 22,000 in the number of idle freight cars during the latter half of May is shown in tha fortnightly report of the American Railwty associations jast issued but dated May 27. On that date there were 381,779 Idle freight cars against 404,375 on May 13, the date of the previous report. This makes the eecond consecutive decrease in idle cars the previous report having shown a reduction of about $9,000 cars from tha maximum of 413,338. reached April 29.
