helped to make famous, among the

number being Lillian Russell, May Irwin, Lew Fields and Nat Goodwin.

Mr. Pastor has been a figure in the

theatrical world since he was six year3 old when he mad his first appearance

as a duet singer In a place on Dey

street. Since the close of the civil war

he has controlled a playhouse of his own In this city. For many years ho had a theater on the Bowery and once ventured over onto Broadway, but this

did not prove very successful.

ARCHBISHOP CHRISTIE AGED 60.

Portland, Ore., May 28. The Most Rev. Alevander Christie, Roman Catholic archbishop of Portland, celebrated his sixtieth birthday today. The archbishop is a native of Vermont and was

educated at Grand Seminary, Montreal. The early years of his career in the church were spent in Minnesota. In 1898 he became bishop of Vancouver

Island, B. C, and a year later was promoted to the archlepiscopal see of Ore

gon City.
