CLOSES YEAR'S PROGRAM. The History committee of the Hamnond Woman's club held the final meeting of the year yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Eugene F. Cooper, 35 Warren street During a short business meeting it was decided that next year's work should be a special study
of Washington, D. C, and the states of Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan. A substitute committee consisting of Mesdames Flcta Swalm, Stella Wilcox, Xettie Blackmun, Margaret Wall and Sarah Rothchlld was appointed to make the necessary outlines. At the close of the business meeting the social coraroitee composed by Mesdames Mary Knotss, Sarah Rothchild and Gertrude Cooper were given charge. Misses Dollie Knotts and Mary Krost gave a very pleasing program. After a guessing contest, which somewhat taxed the geographical memory, a delicious repast was served. The guests of the committee were the retiring president of the Woman's club, Mrs. Edith Griffin and her successor, Mrs. Minnie Ibach. The past year's work, a detailed study of Holland was a great success under Mrs. Stella Wilcox, who
has so ably furthered the interests of committee, the membership has doubled. Mrs. Margaret Wall will have charge next year and splendid work is anticipated. DI.XEB PARTY IX CHICAGO.1 Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cox and daughter, Miss Mae Nelson, and Mr. and Mrs. Will C. Mee had dinner in Chicago last evening. The party was given in honor of Mrs. Cox's birthday anniversary. . CHICAGO GIRL MARRIES. A wedding of Interest to many Hammond people took place Friday evening. May 22, when Miss Margaret Williams, formerly of Hammond, and Mr.
William Sherwood were married in Chicago. The Rev. R. A. White performed the ceremony. At the conclusion of their honeymoon trip west, Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood will be at home in apartments at Forty-fifth street and Grand boulevard, Chicago. Mr. Sherwood has many friends here, having been employed as a stenographer in the G. IL Hammond office when it was located in Hammond. She went to Chi- ' cago when the office was moved and was still in their employ when she met Mr. Sherwood. A very romantic and unsual incident is told in connection with the marriage of "Mr. and Mrs. ! Sherwood, an adventure iin which Sherwood rescued Mrs. Sherwood, then Margaret Williams from the horns of an enraged bull. The incident occurred last December asiMiss Williams .was passing along Exchange avenue on her way to work. Her attention was attracted by shouts of alarm and she turned to discover a maddened bull, escaped from one of the pens, rushing
down upon her. Miss Williams was in danger of being trampled to death when rescued by Mr. Sherwood, who had seen the danger the young lady was in, from a nearby office. This proved an introduction to a friendship which culminated In the mariage
which took place last Friday. HOLD FINE MEETING.
