t MEETING POSTPONED. : The meeting: of tlie Jewel Study club which announced to have met last evertin g "with Mrs.-J. D. Haliburton of Mason street, was postponed indefinitely on account of the revival services being held at the First Baptist church this "week. DANCING CLASS. A pleasant weekly dancing party was held last evening in ljongs nan wmcn was largely attended by young people from .East Chicago and Hammond. EXTERTAINMEXT PLANNED. ; The Ladies' Aid society of the First Methodist Episcopal church has secured thte Glazier Jubilee sinerers of Chicago to give an entertainment at the church, Thursday evening, April 9 which promises to be one of best heard in Hammond for some time. The entertainment promises to be well attended from all indications. -The proceeds will be used for the benefit of the church. PEDRO PARTY AND DANCE. Golden Rule Council No. 1, D. of I, will hold a pedro party and dance on Tuesday evening, April 14, in the K. of P. hall. A very pleasant entertainment is prDmised all who attend. CALLED HOME. Miss Mary Richards, a teacher at the Lafayette school, was called to her home in Pennsylvania on account of the serious illness of relatives. This is the second time since Christmas that Miss Richards has been called. MARTHA SOCIETY MEETS. The Martha society of the First Christian church will meet Thursday afternoon with Mrs. J. M. Vansickle at her home, 92 Plummer avenue. All the members are. urged to be present as business of importance will be dis cussed. RETURNS TO SCHOOL. Charles Crumpacker has returned to Bloomington, Ind., where he is attend ing the Indiana university, after spend lng the spring vacation with his par ents, Air. and Mrs. Peter Crumpacker, of Webb street. VISITS HERE FROM DENVER. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Deweese of Den ver, Colo., and Mr. and Mrs. Carl De weese were the guests of Mr. and Mrs A. M. Deweese and family of Rimbach avenue, yesterday. RETURN TO SCHOOL. Miss Pauline Sauerman and Miss Haezl Jones have returned to Lake Forest, HI., to resume -their studies at Ferry Hall, after spending a pleasant week's vacation at Miss - Sauerman's home In Crown Point, and with friends in Hammond. Several parties have been given by young ladies by friends In Crown Point, among them dinner parties by Misses Belle Peterson, Josephine Wheeler and Florence Seaberger. , , MISS LA RUE A HOSTESS. . . Miss .Hazel La Rue will entertain the members of the Pleasure club this evening at her home. The club's parties are always pleasant and the members expect an enjoyable time. CERONA CLUB. Mrs. E. J." Seeley will have the members of the Cerona club as her guests at the party tomorro wafternoon at her home in State Line street. Cards will be played during the afternoon and "a dainty luncheon will be served ' by the hostess. A very pleasant afternoon Is anticipated by the members. MUCH IMPROVED. Rulo Minard, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. 'A. Minard, who has been ill for several weeks with typhoid fever at St. Margaret's hospital, is reported to be Improving very nicely. LADIES' GUILD. An important meeting of the Ladles' Guild of St. ' Paul's Episcopal church is being held this afternoon in the guild room -of the church. Business of importance to the member is being disposed- of. PRESBYTERIAN AID. The Ladies' Aid society of the First Presbyterian church are meeting this afternoon in the church parlors for the annual election of officers. There is a good attendance of members. OAK LEAF CLUB. Mrs. John , Miller "vvill entertain the members of the Oak Leaf Embroidery club at the meeting tomorrow afternoon at her home, 43 Sibley street. A very pleasant party is anticipated. M. E. MISSIONARY MEETS. The Home Missionary society of the First Methodist church met yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. R. Stauffer, 16 Condit street, for the regular monthly meeting. -"Children of the Mine, Mill and Workshop" was the study for the afternoon. The question of child labor in the mills and factories of large cities was discussed quite freely. Mrs. A. II. Rohrer of Goshen, Ind., conference mite box secretary, was present at this meeting and gave a very interesting talk on child labor and the mite box work. Mes- , dames Julius Dunsing and Fred Newell were In charge of the program for the afternoon, which Included the following numbers: A vocal duet by the Mesdames Julius Dunsing and A. K. .Thompson, which was followed by a very interesting paper on "Child Toilers in Great Cities," by Mrs. Fred -Newell. Mrs. M. M. Bruce also read -an interesting paper on the question .of "White Slaves of the Boston Sweaters." The program closed with another vocal duet by Mesdames Dunsing and Thompson.
