The Hammond Musical Jlt Society Entertained a number of Hammond's music loving people last evening at one )f the best recitals ever heard in Ham;nond at the First Presbyterian church. Mrs. William F. Bridge, presidents of the society, opened the program with a few words in praise of the young artists of Chicago who rendered the program after which the concert was carried on very Informally. Miss Grace Kennicott of Chicago, the yound soprano who won the honors in the Kistedfodd, held in Towle's Opera House recently, sang several beautiful soios and was assisted by Miss Livingston on the violin. A very delightful kitchen surprise party was given last evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller at , the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blosser in Truman avenue. The evening was passed very lenjoyably with various games and music and an elaborate luncheon was served. The guests wero Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. FIG PUDDING. This pudding is a great emergency dessert on an Arizona ranch. You can make quite a bit of it and it will keep indefinitely, stoaming a little as needed. Chop fine one pound figs, one pound raisins and one cup suet. Add one teaspoonful cinnamon, one-half teaspoonful cloves, one cup sugar, one cup sweet milk, one-half teaspoonful salt, one pint grated crumbs and three well beaten eggs. Mix well and steam three hours.

COLONIAL CLm PARTY. Mrs. F. B. Olwin entertained the members of the Colonial club very pleasantly yesterday afternoon at her home in Carroll street. The afternoon was passed very pleasantly with the lub's usual program after which tho hostess served a delicious two-course Junchean in the dining room. The table was very artistically decorated with violets. Mrs. J. W. llouser will have the club as her guests at the next meeting in two weeks. The guest for the afternoon's party was Mrs. Coles and the members present were: Mesdames J. W. Reed, Addie Abbott, W. F. Brunt, J. J. Turner, XV. H. Spellman, Julius Dunsing, M. M. Bruce and J. XV. Houser. S. S. CLUB MEETING. Mrs. J. Hartman entertained tne members of the S. S. club at their regular monthly meeting yesterday afternoon at her home in State street The afternoon was passed very pleasantly with the club's regular program after which a delicious luncheon was served, at the next party at her home In Plummer avenue. Mrs. Bowman was the only guest yesterday and the members present were: Mesdames Nick Ainsles', William Mill, Puelke, Heineman, Morton and Fick. GIVES I UNCHEOV. Mrs. XV. B. Clark, formerly of Hammond, but now of Englewood, entertained at cards Tuesday afternoon in honor of her birthday anniversary. The hostess served an elegant five course luncheon at 1:30 o'clock, after which cards were enjoyed. Mrs. J. B. Clark of Hammond was among the guests who attended. CHOIR REHEARSAL. The members of the choir of St. Paul's Episcopal church will hold their regular rehearsal this evening in the guild room of the church. All the members are urged to be present. STAR CLASS SOCIAL. NEW CARD CLUB ORGANIZED. Several people met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Yaeger last evening to organize a card club which will be called the West Hammond Pedro club. The following officers were elected to act during the year: President Richard Zimmerman. Secretary Miss Elsie Lortz, Treasurer Charles Yaeger. Arrangement Commitiee Mesdames E. Pressell, J. B. Clark and J. Carsar. ; After the business of the dug , had been disposed of, five games of pedro wee played and very pleasing refreshments were served. The club then adjourned to meet again in one week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. .J. B. Clark in Ingraham avenue. The members of the club are; Messrs. and Mesdames Charles Yaeger, Richard Zimmerman, Pressedd, P. Carsar, J. B. Clark, J. Conway of "West Hammond reported that he had no news of his missing horse reported stolen the day before. Not a single arrest was made during the day or night and the department feels slighted to a great degree. NEW FEUIT ST0EE TO OPEN UP ON STATE STEEET. A new fruit store is to be opened up shortly on State street in the Gelsen block, formerly tenanted by the Calumet Supply company's grocery establishment which concern recently went out of business.
