Misses Ella C. Klose, Georgiana Hess, Ivy Lloyd, Irene and Edna Putnam and Eugene Putnam, who have been visiting in Whiting since Thursday, returned to their studies at Valparaiso university yesterday. Miss Elizabeth Putnam will leave in two weeks for East Aurora, N. Y., to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Hubbard and take a course in bookbinding at the Iloycrofters bindery. For many months the quarters in the main offices of the Standard Oil company on Front street have been cramped. The officials are now taking eteps to prevent this by building an addition. The addition will double the floor space, and the present flat roof
will be replaced by a gabled one, which will greatly enhance the appearance. Miss Almirah Morse will spend her vacation with friends in Morgan Park. Mrs. Wuthenow of the Ite ht's flats is 111. A book social was given at the Methodist church last night and provedboth novel and interesting. Each guest came representing a book, the object being to guess the name of the books represented. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fox are here from LaPorte to spend the winter with their daughter, Mrs. Fred J. Smith, of Oliver street.
