W hile llusleiiNH Men Concur and Labor Protests, the HIr Mill Owners Go On in the Calm Enjoyment of Their Property. South Chicago, Nov. 21. (Special.) The South Chicago Trades and Labor Assembly at a meeting yesterday, took exception to the action of the South Chicago Business Men's association favoring the action of the Illinois Steel
in annexing land on the shores of Lake Michigan which belonged to the state. Tho following resolutions were unanimously adopted: The Legislative Committee takes exception to the statements of Mr. Schlosser of the South Chicago Business Men's association, as printed In the Dally Calumet, Oct. SO, in which that gentleman stated that the people of South Chicago approved the action of the Illinois Steel company in annexing land on he shores of Lako Michigan which rightfully belonged to the state. The South Chicago Trades and Labor Assembly (representing nearly 6,000 working men of South Chicago) unhesitatingly and emphatically refutes the statement of Mr. Schlosser. The South Chicago Business Men's association cannot claim In any manner to represent the working people of South Chicago; and we further reiterate our sentiments, often expressed, that we view with disfavor the action of any company or corporation (including the Illinois Steel company) appropriating to their uses . ny land or other commodity which they have not purchased and paid for at a just price. Concurred in and ordered given to the press for publication. Once more the Legislative committee feels called upon to censure the present city administration, including in particular Mayor Busse and Commissioner of Public Works John J. Henberg, for abandoning the city repair shops and municipal iron foundry, while at the same time increasing the printing plant at the bridewell, whereby convict labor may still further be employed In competition with the working classes. Concurred in find ordered given to the press for publication.
