Ridgely The bank statement is not reassuring but the big gold imports will figure in this Week's statement and the bank situation should improve from now right along. Don't let it worry you. Stocks are likely to improve from any weakness today and will probably close higher. The trend should continue upward for the next three or four weeks. It is too early yet to attempt to forecast the December market which will depend somewhat on the course of prices and events meanwhile. Wabash for September: Gross, $2,498,889, inc. $377,079. Joseph L. & N. is a bargain. Take on some Reading for a good turn. Erown. Fresent indications seem to be that financial conditions are steadily improving and that money will be somewhat easier next week. Miller We figure the situation as gradually mending. Ttfwn Topics We are especially favorable to Union Pacific and Reading though the Hill issues, Southern Pacific, Atchison and I. and O., L. and N., and Atlantic Coast may be brought with comparative safety when under bearish pressure. Miller The heaviest buying of steel has been by a broker doing business for a large 'international banking house. I look for much higher prices in stocks and believe in buying Reading. In the loan quarters this morning the demand for stocks was large. I think the market much oversold and the floating supply of stocks smaller than at any time in years. Bache Heavy short covering induced by the better financial outlook, stocks are not as plentiful as it was thought they would be on the advance. Perhaps the largest tree in New England stands in the yard of Jerry Richard in Chester, Vt. The tree measures 23 V2 feet in circumference two feet from the ground. Its branches have a spread of 130 feet. There are seven limbs which, measure 2 feet in diameter, and choppers estimate that the tree contains 20 cords of wood. Remarks t3j Coincidence.. The old chapci at Faversham, England, was at one time in charge of Rev. H. J. Rook. Sparrow and Cuckoo were the names of the two deacons. Mrs. Martin was chapelkeeper. Mr. Lark, Miss Crow and Miss Nightengale were in the congregation. The chapel itself was situated In. Partridge lane. Use Up Much Powder. Put the advertising must grow, in volume, in liberality, in quality, faster than the store itself grows. This is true because the store must keep pace with the advertising, or within hailing distance of it. It never does quite "catch up" anymore than the cars of a train overtake the engine. And exactly as the engine "pulls the train along', so the advertising "pulls the store along. To pursue the comparison. It requires a bigger engine to pull a thirty-car train than it does to pull a ten car train. And it takes more adverti-ing to "pull" a "hundredclerk store" than it does to pull a ten-clerk one. The train will not make much progress on the days that the engine is not running; but it will make just as good progress on those days as well as will a store on the days when the advertising Is not running. Your advertising Is "adequate" when it is strong enough to pull the store along after It; and when i: is running ,n every day tiat ycu des 'n ta seek: business find to increase traie.
