Miller, pastor of the German Methodist Episcopal church, moved his family to Michigan City, yesterday where he will assume his duty as a minister. Rev. Ruff has accepted the position recently vacated by Rev. Miller of the German Methodist Episcopal church of this place, and Is now moving his family. Little Anna A. Rutkowsky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rutkowsky, died at the age of six months in West Creek township. Deceased was buried yesterday afternoon at the Hanover Center cemetary. Mrs. Mary Hitzman died at her home In Brunswick at the age of 69 years, leaving five children, surviving her, her husband having died about ten years ago. Deceased will be buried tomorrow afternoon. The Gary Construction company has finished the work of putting in the concrete foundation walls and piers for the Knotts building at Broadway and seventh avenue and bids are now being received by the Knotts Bros, for the erection of the fifty feet on the corner. The building will be fifty feet wide, one hundred and twenty-five feet long and three stories high, to be of the same kind of front as the twen-ty-tive feet in which the bank and postoffice are about to be quartered Just south of the corner property. LOWELL NEWS Grant Palmer of East Chicago visited his parents and relatives here a few days this week. Miss Lizzie Baird, teacher at Boone Grove, closed her school three days the present week to attend the funeral of her uncle in Michigan. Don Drlscoll is visiting his many relatives and friends in Lowell. He has just got out of a Chicago hospital and is looking a little feeble. Paul Mahler had the misfortune a few days ago to get his ankle sprained which will lay him up for several days. He was working with some bridge piling when one of them came unchained, rolling on his foot and necessitating the aid of all the other help to release him. A reception was tendered Rev. J. F. Drake, the new Meth-?.; minister, and his estimable wife at the M. E. church Wednesday evening. A large number of the church workers and townspeople were In attendance to listen to the interesting program of instrumental and vocal music and recitations by Misses Calla Palmer, Loa Foster, Clara PIxley, Mrs. W. L. Handly and Mrs. Elden Hayhurst and M. E. choir. Hon. S. C. Dwyer in well chosen words gave the welcoming address, which was responded to an an able manner by Rev. Drake. Impromptu speeches were listened to from William Sheets, Rev. John Bruce, II. V. Weaver, Prof Deyo and Roy Daum. Light refreshments were served after which a fine sociable time was enjoyed until the hour hand pointed to nearly 11 o'clock, when all departed for their respective homes, feeling that they had properly welcomed the new minister, who In turn felt that he had been properly welcomed. Loring, this afternoon filed a damage suit againsc the Chicago and Erie rail road company alleging the killing of a horse at ?500. The horse was killed July 5, last, near Kouts, this county. The con tract for printing and supplying them was let to a new firm and the delay caused by the installation of their new plant. Manager Ross, of the East Chicago company, nas soia eleven acres norm of the Harbinson-Walker factory to be used for a new factory site. The new factory will manufacture railway appliaces similar to the product of the Simplex. The name of the new firm is the O. F. Jordan company, with offices in the Railway Exchange building in Chicago. A, Mlzo have returned home from Indian apolis where they attended the Grand Lodge of Pythian Sisters, as delegates from the local order. The case of Frank Wenzel vs. City of Whiting, which was to have come up in the superior court at Hammond at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, was postponed until the next term of court. Mr. Alex Connors left yesterday for Philadelphia to join the "Girl Rangers" bmpany, who have decided to go to Philadelphia before going to New York as was first expected would be the next stop. Several of his friends ac companied him to the train to see him off. The Whiting people were shocked this morning to hear of the death of Carl Meyers who formerly lived in Whiting, over Schnelderwendt's hardware store. Tho telephone message, which was received, states that he was coming home from work, and jumping off! a train, he ran into another train and was instantly killed. The members of the Methodist church held a conference last evening. The Ladies' Aid society, Woman's Foreign Missionary society, Epworth and Junior leagues and Knights of the Holy Grail were each represented by a member who gave a general account of the work done by the society which he represented. The affair proved to be much of a success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. I GRIFFITH NEWS Miss Francis Miller took the G. T, train to the city this morning. Southworth & Carley , contractors, aro back in town constructing walks, after'a couple of weeks spent In Ham mond in the Interest of their business. Jo Grimmer, the genial superintendent of one of the car-repairing gangs here, is preparing to have a celler put under his dwelling. Jansen & Company will do the work. A gang of men are in town tearing down the oil tank on the Standard Oil company's grounds that exploded and burned a month or two ago. They will erect a new one in Its place. CLARK STATION Mrs. C.
