Henry Kuehl, who has been at Petosky, Mich., the past two months, will return home tomorrow.

Mrs. II. D. McDowell, of Ft. Clinton, Ohio, is visiting in the city the guest of S. B. Pomeroy and family. Mr. and Mrs. Kick Smith, of Shaw. Mich., are visiting in the city with John Cromwell and family.

Charles Cleveland and wife have returned to their homo in Hammond after a visit here with relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Fromouth have returned from a visit at New York City, Niagara Falls and Toronto.

Mrs. Geo. Longshore has returned from a visit at South Bend with her Bon, Gordon Longshore and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Lease are taking their regular annual vacation this week.

Miss Myrtle Wilson will give a China shower, Friday evening in honor of Miss Helen Sergeant, who will be married to Harry Hodsden, of this city.

Judge Tuthlll went to Wcstville, Ind., this afternoon, where he will attend the Masons' celebration. Ho will make an address on "The Spirit of Free Masonry."

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Talcott, of Englewood, Mrs. Carrlo Pagin, of Rolling Prairie, Ind., Eugene Underwood, of Chicago and Dr. Kuderllng and wife, of Evanston, 111., attended the funeral of Harold Pagin here yesterday.

James Ryan, a former resident of this clfy died Inst evening at his home In Chicago, where he had resided for the past two years. He was a member of the Maccabeo and I. O. F. of A. The deceased was 65 years old and leaves a wife and one daughter. The remains will be brought hero tomorrow and tho funeral will bo hold from St. Paul's church.

scarce in this part of the country, the cider press was running all day and a large quantity of cider was taken

Word has been received from St. John that Pete Pfeifer, who Is visiting there, has entirely recovered from the slight paralytic stroke which ho suffered about one week ago.

Several old veterans and their wives will attend a reception given by William McKinley, W. R. C. No. 257, at Wielands hall in East Chicago this

evening, which Is given in honor of

the old veterans of Hammond, Whit Ing and East Chicago.

William Hamlin, who ran away from home about a week ago because his parents insisted on him attending school, has returned to Whiting and

with the oncoming winter is glad to

be beneath the parental roof again.

Many of the friends of Mr. and Mrs,

John Melvln (nee Katherlne Schaaf), who are spending their honeymoon at the home of the groom's parents in Louisville, Ky., are being remembered

with souvenir postal cards, which state that they are both well and

happy.

Contractor Hatch, who is building the new township gravel road has begun work on the streets in town.

Ralph Ruekman, night operator at the Pennsylvania depot went to Plymouth today to work for a few nights.

A number of the local sportsmen have been on the marsh the past few days, but haven't brought home many ducks.

Mrs. Albert Wettengel of Pullman, 111., Is here visiting for a few days at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Louis Wettengel.

Mr. and Mrs. Hans Stemmer of Chicago, who have just returned from a trip through the east, visited In Hobart yesterday with Mr. Stammer's mother, Mrs. Jerome Shearer.

The case of Graning vs. Hoffman for assault and battery with Intent to kill, which was to come up for trial before Squire Mathews yesterday morning, was postponed until next Saturday.
