Sam Bender of Sharon, Pa., and several young friends spent yesterday here getting in touch with the local conditions and announced their Intention of returning In the spring to open a clothing store If a suitable location could be secured. F. M. Savage of Jollet spent this morning here watching the progress on the work for his building at Seventh avenue and Broadway. He will erect there a two-story and basement brick building, 50x80. The plans call for the completion of the building by the early spring. The Meekison building Just north of th Sam Miller building on Broadway, north of Sixth avenue. Is rapidly asnumlng shape. It is but a twenty-five foot building and stands between the Miller building and the site of the second building, which Colonel Savage of Jollet expects to frect. The latter will not be erected untll'ln the spring. Father Jansen of Hobart stopped off here this afternoon between trains for a short call. The meeting which he conducted Sunday at the Binzenhof hall "was well attended, there being nearly a hundred peopla out. The plans of his work call for a regular service to be held at least once a month and oftener If conditions will warrant it. The Father has the hearty co-operation of the Bishop and other men in authority who relaize that the work should be pushed in Gary even if at a higher cost than elsewhere, the need being greater here than it is in the ordinary comxivinity of slower growth. The rumor that Fifth avenue property Is off the market has been confirmed and those who have finally made up their minds to buy now find themselves outside of the fortunate group of the business property fronting on Fifth avenue was sold, but the remainder has been taken off indefinitely. This is in line with the determination of the Gary Land company in the very beginning that should a great demand develop for business property than the conditions apparently justified it would be taken off the market until the residential growth had time to reach proportions warranting additional business houses. The rapid selling of business frontage in sharp contrast with the slow sales of residence lots showed plainly that the one was being over done, through the eagerness of the outside business men to get into Gary. Tho property in the residence districts Is showing a better sale now than ever, however, and will probably continue to do so more and more when the people realize the cheapness of the property when compared with other similar property. Tho prices range about the same, if anything the Land company's running a little lower for a lot the eamo distance from Broadway in another part of town. The outside lot has of course, no improvements while those in the first subdivision have all the modern facilities, most of them . ready to hitch onto and the few remaining being rapidly prepared. The vain attempts on the part of several local professional men to make apjpoinments with Town Clerk C. O. 'Holmes for Wednesday or Thursday of this week aroused latent suspicions tralsed some time ago by the news that ;he was building a house on Maryland street and when his stenographer was ; finally cross examined as to his whereabouts this morning it developed that he had gone to Hammond, Monday evening from where he went to Chicago on his way to get a bride. The wedding occurs at Harcourt, la., Miss Linda I'erry of that place being the bride. The event is scheduled for Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock at the home of the bride.
