Olson Brothers have completed their i recent contract on Maryland street near Eighth avenue and Gallagher & Williams on ToleSTon who have the contract for the building take charge this afternoon. Mrs. Joseph Morris came out from Chicago this afternoon with her two little children to their new home in Gary. "Joe" occupies the place on Adams street at Twelfth avenue and is renting- it of Mike Sosnoskl of Whiting. The Pennsylvania railroad has run in a switch, spur in the property recently acquired by Rausch & Kamanske on the south side of their tracks and the ; firm is building coal sheds to store the 'supply which they expect to handle. Contractor A. M. White begun the erection of a large two story frame building on Jefferson street for Walter Pisarski, proprietor of the Wabash Inn across the street from where the new building is under way. Mr. Myers of the local postoffice has removed from his old quarters and is now occupying rooms at the McCormick building. Whenthe postoffice is moved Into the new building he will be very conveniently located. In fact in the eame block. Miss Lois Bemer returned Saturday afternoon from her visit down in Illinois. , She persuaded her mother to allow her to return to Gary in spite of the mother's determination that she needed LoTa at homo and Miss Lois is back at her old post In the delivery window at the postoffice. Harry King, the real estate dealer spent the day at Crown Point where he is acquiring an extensive tract which he and a couple of friends expect to put onto the market at an early date. King is negotiating for an elegant suite of bachelor quarters in one of the finer flats on Broadway which slightly spoils the rumor passed a few weeks ago about his having benedictlne inclinations. John Prascsak, the elder of the two bi others known to the local people as Prascsak Brothers company, arrived this afternoon with his wife and little children from Braddock, Pa., where ho disposed of their largo interests similar to the ones they are acquiring here. For the time being they are quartered with the family of John Kertes manager of the Prascsak Brothers company on Washington street. An attachment suit was brought to day at Crown Point making L. Jay Ynrter of Chicago the party defendant. The complaint sets up certain allegations concerning the workings of Carter's big splash in real estate here several months atro that would indicate that Carter wasn't doing all of the work for his health, and in fact according to the complaint took more for his part of the work than the original plan called for. With the arrival of more material for the Gary Construction company work has, been resumed on the South Broadway Improvement with the characteristic vim. The large stretches of finished sidewalk are rapidly beginning to the pedestrian ploughing through the pnnd. Under the direction of City Engineer Melton the paving along Eleventh avenue recently put down by the Illinois Improvement & Ballast company has "been rescued from a danger that prom ised to undo much of the costly work. He has poles staked down along the entire stretch thus preventing the stone and gravel from spreading away from the original pavement bed and also preventing teamsters from driving upon and off of the Improvement wherever they deemed It convenient. The offenders in this regard were many and persistent and the action of the engineer was the only course left. The Falktnau Construction completed this afternoon the putting In of the plate glass in the T. P. Phillips building on the northeast corner of Broadway and Fifth avenue. The rooms that w re to be ready for occupancy are still unfinished although they are now promised for next week without fail. The upper High school grades are unablf to commence work this week on account of the delay and a number of professional men who have secured their quarters there are cooped up In make shift places. The Gary Band company which was scheduled to move several weeks ago is stlfl occupying its old quarters although it is understood they anticipate moving the latter part ot next week. Mrs. Ed Pattee left today for an extended visit with her mother at Lucay, Mo. Ralph Smith and wife of Chicago visited Van Grant and wife over Sunday. Robert Wartena of Hammond visited his parents here over Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. B. Forsythe has returned from New Philadelphia, Ohio, where she has been visiting her sister. J. C. Gwin, who has been taking treatment at Hunter Springs, has returned and is considerably improved. CLARK STATION Mr. O'Hearn transacted business in Chicago Monday. Miss Mable Clossom of South Chicago visited with her grandmother at Clark Station Sunday. The Clark Station and Indiana Harbor baseball team played at Clark Station Sunday. The Clark Station lost, the score being 10 to 4. EAST CHICAGO NEWS Miss Jennie Compton, formerly employed at the Lion store, has taken a position with the Bee Hive. Chief Higglns, with the assistance of Officers Kula and Vucsanovich, succeeded in rounding up five stray cows yesterday. The Tigers football team is rapidly rounding into hape. Osborn, spent Sunday in Mich igan City and LaPorte. They made the trip by auto. County Commissioner Andrew Bickel and J. N. Finney went to Indianapolis today to attend the state convention ol the county commissioners. Rev. Samuel C. Logan, formerly of this city a prominent Presbyterian divine, died at his home in Scran ton, Pa last Friday. He had been a minister for fifty-six years. Harold Pagin, son of Dr. J. R. Pagin, died Saturday evening at Kankakee 111., of spinal mengitis, after an illness of three days. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home in this city. GRIFFITH NEWS Mrs. Schuman has just returned from a prolonged visit in the east. Math Berieger has moved into his new house on Junction avenue. Mrs. R. M. Dauthett of Highlands called on friends here yesterday. Mrs. Leslie Bennett and son, of Chicago, visited relatives here over Sunday. Attorney Fancher of Crown Point was in town yesterday to consult with the president of the town board and to look after some other business. Mr. Burns of Chicago was here yes terday looking after the interests of the Cluff estate. He secured a pemit of the town board to build a walk between First and Second streets. Rev. Abbott of the M. E. church, who has been here for some time, has been sent elsewhere and Rev. Streeter has taken his place. Church will hereafter be held Sunday morning in the school house in place of the Russ hall, which is to be remodeled. The camp cars of the Italian section men on the'C, C. & L. were broken Into yesterday wniie the men were away to work and considerable mer chandise and valuables taken. Var ious articles of clothing and a watch were among the things stolen, but no money was gotten by the robbers There was great excitement when the owners returned and found what had happened. It is not exactly known who did the Job, but three men of the hobo gang on the Erie which were sent here yesterday morning, were seen hastily leaving town some time be fore the robbery was reported to Mar shal Harkenrider. Misses Lucy and Maggie Tyrell came out from Chicago yesterday to bid goodby to their relatives as they start today for Gainesville, Texas. Work has been commenced on the three-story brick fiat building to be erected next to Martin's bakery by Drs. C. C. Robinson and F. E. Steph ens. It is expected that work will com mence today on the building to be erected on the corner of Michigan and Guthrie by the Indiana Harbor State bank, for the bank and postoffice. A troup of colored minstrels held forth in Cline's hall Saturday night. The parade by their band and the music in front of the hall gave enter tainment for those who did not have the price. A select dance will be given by H. C, Ralston and others at the South Bay hotel Friday evening of this week. A large number of invitations have been Issued to the people of the Harbor and surrounding towns. The little five-year-old daughter of Mr. Wigginton recently mistook concentrated lye for sugar and placed a teaspoonful of it in her mouth.
