Iluslnena Men Akrd for Signatures to Proposition to Change location. A petition is being circulated among the business and professional men asking for the removal of the postofflce from its present quarters to the Knotts building at Seventh avenuo and Broadway. The government has signified Its willingness to allow the removal of the postofflce to some moro central location and it Is now the purpose to get the postmaster to move the office at the earliest possible moment. There is no doubt about his being willing to move it but It Is thought that he would rather have a concrete expression befor taking the step. The building ia rapidly nearing completion and should be ready for occupancy by the end of the week. THUSTEES MEET. Briefs. The police station showed up an unusually quiet Sunday yesterday to th? regret of all concerned. There was a little sober shooting In the south part of town last evening but no damage done and no trace of the miscreantChief of Police Joseph D. Martin Ij wearing a gold star that a bunoh of his admiring friends secured for him as a token of their appreciation of ii'.s prowes3. "Joe's" abllty to keep still and saw wood counts more than all of the advertising his friends ,t;lve him. Heavenrich, formerly of Hammond, landed the roofing contracts for the Farovid and Dubetz buildings at Broadway and Seventh avenue and has begun the work of putting on the roofing. They have offices in the McCormick building having located last week. They were probably the earliest prepared roofing men on the ground, having covered tho postofneo building. John McCormick has Installed his new soda fountain and it now dispensing the soft drinks that fizz with considerable celerity. The McCormlck's have completed their moving into the Hats above the store and the basement beneath. Mr. McCormick's political propensities, having been treasurer and alderman back in his home town since ho first went to Toluca, has awakened dormant fears In the hearts of other local would-be politicians. The number of pioneers here who are making slates and picking winners In a race that Is yet cnlmerlcal and the number who tell about how many votes they can swing, brands Gary as a real Hoosier town right from the jump. Apparently every down and out politician from far and near swung into town with his carpet bag with the firm determination of regaining lost laurels and from the veriest foreign dug out up to the gum shoe cliques at the Blzenhof there goes forth sounds of political ambitions and Intrigue.
