CHICAGO LETTER. Chicago, Aug. 13. WHEAT, CORN AND OATS Ruled stronger throughout the session. Although the market was very dull, the mora prominent commission houses have advised their clients to trade cautiously until the wire facilities become more settled. September wheat sold tip a cent from thrt low price of the day which was S3. Northwestern traders were the chief buyers on the decline. Tha arrivals of almost 500 cars of new wheat at this market gave the market a temporary weak tone; the selling was presumably against cash purchases from country correspondents. Foreign markets wore weak and lower, reflecting the sharp break in our market here yesterday. Liverpool was quoted a full penny lower. All speculative grain markets closed with a slight advance over yesterday's closing tii;ures but dullness was more pronounced than any other feature. rnonici; MARKETS. Chicago, Ausrust 13. Owing to the telegraphers strike outside orders are limited to a small and unimportant volume and shippers are practically out of the market. This leaves the bulk of the offerings to retailers and consumers and weakness prevails in many lines. Receipts of ail kinds are liberal ,but the quality shown is very Irregular, due to Hie hot weather, many of ihe vegetables coming wilted and the fruits overripe end specked. Potatoes were in exoesMve supply and prices declined 6 to lev per bu. Prices favor buyers in nearly all lines. Quotations on round lots follow: Butter Receipts, 8. 42 tubs. Denver earnings: First August, $442,700; inc. $53,500, 1, $2,391,600; inc. $348,100. week In from July There is no doubt but that soma very large accounts had to ba thrown over, and with the selling by Europe, it made it look very panicky at one time. Rank of Commerce and National City banks showed principal reduction in loans in bank statement and First National bank largest loss in cash. Twenty-one banks showed les3 than 25 per cent reserves in bank statement against 24 last week and 23 in corresponding week last year. There is good support given to the market this morning and we ought to have a good rally. British govern- , ment buying consols, will help their market. ! Nothing special to say Soma of the brokers think liquidation not yet completed and prices may go lower. Short covering at the close was said to be the only buying. The Chicago 'Stock Market. Business was slow but prices held well considering the break in Wall street. Swift's is 1-S lower. Box board is unchanged at la. Can common 1-S lower at 5. ties and abide a time when the conditions are more settled before taking the long side of this market. We have every reason to thlr.k that stocks are around the bottom. Maybe you will laugh at this, and I can't blanio you, but It will come pretty near proving a fact. Those who can, should buy tlie active issues Monday. j Sto.ks: I Oil. was -More attacks on Standard the rumor Saturday, and slocks made new low records. ? r arly l'.I The man who can buy at these prices i and r:ot worry over temporary depresi sion, will eventually some out a big I winner. Today's market has been the weakest for many years considering the severe decline that stocks have already had, and today everything made a new low level. Liquidation started at the beginning of the session and lasted until tlie end. There wag hardly any rally and all standard securities were sold in heavyquantities, especially the. Hill Issues, Smelters, Steels, "I'nion and Southern Pacific, and it is hardly possible for anyone to form any idea how far the decline will reach. The great trouble 1 that a good many people are away and cannot be reached, which makes It that much mora unpleasant for the commission houses, and in addition to this the telegraph operators walked out, which makes it impossible to communicate with anyone. 11 ESTATE TRANSFERS Hammond Lots 11 and 12. block 10, e part north side addition; lot 30, block 11, e part north side addition; lots 11 to 14, M.
