Attorney Bardon is looking after legal Interests In Chicago today.
Mrs. Walter Nowak, wife of the polish manager of the Big Three Ileal Kstat company, spent this afternoon In town.
Mr. Meyers, i-x-postniaster of Rensselaer, and former druggist Is arranging to open a drug store on Tenth avenue in a temporary location.
Nicholas Knslr-y of the Union National Savings & Loan association of Indianapolis, ppent this aftf-rnocin here looking after association interests. They are making loans to a small extent in certain parts of the town.
Albert Hormarm has received and is Installing the fixtures that are to equip his place at the corner of Tenth avenue and Broadway. Gallagher and "Williams, the contractors are putting in a concrete basement in the building.
The Congregational people are making a heavy advertising campaign for their ice cream social to be held tomorrow evening on Broadway opposite the Amusement company in the Moe building.

Prascsak Brothers are erecting the largest frame building in Gary o:i Adams street just south of Twelfth avenue. It is being arranged for apartments, being built on much the same plan that is customary in large Steel towns in the Kast.
The Board of Education and Superintendent Wirt meet with representatives of the differ. -nt seating firms to secure bids on the school furniture that Will be needed this Fall, tomorrow afternoon. It is expected that the sev

samples and furnish a bid for taking care of the local needs.
Miss Grace Brooks of Crown Point, formerly a teacher of Hammond is the latest acquisition to the local corps of teachers. She taught last winter in the territory, going there on account of her health. Superintendent Wirt is slowly getting the corps of teachers in shape for work by the time school is to open. High school work will be provid'-d from the beginning in all grades found nff-ssary. Several of the teachers appointed have resigned and others appointed in their places.

The indications for better weather gives people, new hopes for a good harvest of their different crops. The hay crop is better than was at tlrst expected.
LANSING NEWS
Miss Vera Ward of Wisconsin is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Ton.
Quite a number of Lansing people will attend the Kooy-Tanis wedding today at Munster, Ind.
The Delaware house is now running to its capacity and Capen & McNeill the managers are at a loss as to how to take care of the patronage that comes to them. The house is well equipped with every convenience including billiard and reading rooms and is a marked contrast to what most of the men have had to content themselves with during' the past year.
A wire from Medaryville this morning to T. E. Knotts informed him of the death of Mrs. Knotts' father, Mr. Long, a well to do farmer living near Medaryville. Death came suddenly and the children who are scattered widely had no intimation that he was so near the end. Mrs. Knotts left this afternoon for their home and Mr. Knotts leaves in the morning. They will remain at the old home until after the funeral which will probably be held on Sunday.
Attorney McCracken, who bounded Into the limelight locally by his championship of the Steel company in its asking for the street car franchise several months ago, returned to town this afternoon. He left a day or two after his famous utterances to go back to Urbana. Ohio, and close up matters

Miss Clara Hynackey and sister of Blue Island are spending a few days with their cousin, Miss Emily Vanden-berg.
About twenty of the boys employed by John Meeter in his onion patch have chosen today for an outing. The boys are driving to a place on the shores of Lake Michigan, about thirteen miles from here, where the day will be spent in various amusements, such as running races, playing ball, bathing and boating. The boys are early risers. They arose at 4:30 in order to insure a long day.

One of the most valuable horses owned by the Knicnerboeker Ice company died from the effects of the heat while attached to an ice wagon yesterday.
Roy Tilton and his sister. Ruth, will go to Lowell, Ind.. tomorrow for a visit. Mr. Tilton will return home Sunday evening, but Ruth will remain for two weeks with relatives.
John Wensel who was arrested yesterday morning for vagrancy was given a trial in the afternoon. In default of the fine which was improved upon him Chief Lawler had the pleasure of escorting him to Crown Point, where he will be the guest of Sheriff Carter for a period of nineteen days.

Officer John Backus, In front of the electric theatre, Wednesday night, for carrying concealed weapons, was given a trial before Mayor Smith yesterday. Wallish was fined $1 and costs, amounting to $12, for the offense. After paying the fine he was released.
