Feuer Brothers of Cleveland are here for a few days watching the erection of their bulhlin between Fifth and Sixth avenues on Broadway. II. II. Davis, of Hammond, took up hla work today in the offices of T. F. Knotts where he will look after insurance and real estate interests. The M. M. Duchich company, grocers at Fifth avenuo and Virginia Street have erected a largo sign at Broadway and Ninth avenue just south vt the Wabash. The Gary Supply company has completed the erection of its temporaryoffice building at Washington street and the Michigan Central and Is already occupying Its quarters. Miss Grace Brooks of Crown Point spent this afternoon here visiting friends. She expects to return in the early autumn to her work in the Government Indian schools down in the territory. Tha Schillinger Brothers company began today to putting up the reenforcing supports for the concrte pillars and walls in the Gary Building company's building at Broadway and Fifth avenue. Colonel Repp and his son Dale, of Bryan, Ohio, together with Dr. Stauffer of Hammond came over with Frank Wilder this morning for a day in Gary. Repp, Jr., expects to locata in Gary If he can get in touch with work in his line. Dr. Gelsel has let the contract for the excavation for his building just south of the Hoover building to White, excavating contractor. White began operations today. The doctor expects to have his building erected and ready for occupancy by early fall. The Knickerbocker Ico company has completed the erection of its first station on the north side of the Wabash tracks eaft of Connecticut street. The building? is a one story frame building erected to take care of tho immediate Heeds of the community in the ice line. The Green Sons company are putting In the large water mains south of Fifth avenue that lead to Broadway and the east part of town. They are two foot ' mains and are being laid right along behind the finishing clam nhell of the Nash Dowdlo company who ure putting in the sewers. Contractor McClay, of Hammond who iefved the contract for tho J. A. . I'nnan building at the corner of . j.xth avenue and Broadway, spent today getting in touch with conditions here. He Is building tho Betz residence at Hammond, being tho successful bidder on that, the first contract he bid on In Hammond after coming in from tho east. GRIFFITH NEWS Ed Dutton of Ross, called on relatives here today. Judge Liable went to Hammond this morning on business. Mrs. John Miller and daughter visited Ilegewisch today. Jacob Miller went to the city yesterday to transact business. Harold Dutton Is now working as night clork at Hartsdale. Mr. and Mrs. Kick Kuhn and familyspent the day shopping In Hammond, William Todd's two days' old infant, died this morning. The mother is out of danger. Lee Chalfant visited Whiting friends today. His new uniform is the same as the carriers of Crown Point and other places wear. Mr. Began, father of Ed Degan, has so far recovered that he expects to return to his home in a few days. It will be remembered that he was run down by an automobile In Chicago a few weeks ago, and seriously hurt. The first serious accident in GrilTlth for the C. C. &. L. happened here yesterday morning when a trainman was thrown from a freight train with such violence as to break his leg. He was attempting to pass from a freight car to the tender of the engine when a sudden movement of the train caused him to lose his footing. Unable to catch himself he fell, striking the rail of another track. When the rest of the crew picked him up they found his leg broken. He was put on the engine and taken to Merrillville. where the company's physician. Dr. Iddings, looked after his injuries. DYER NEWS Edward Scheldt and family of Hobart spent Thursday with relatives here In town. A little baby girl made its appearance at the home of Anthony Kellman and family yesterday. Miss Mary Sehaefer of Chicago is the guest of her sister, Mrs. J. L. Keilman of this place at present. Our school Sisters of St. Francis will leave today for their homo in Joliet to spend their vacation there. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Miller and children of Hammond spent the Fourth with relatives here in Dyer. Mrs. Elizabeth Schaller of Hammond, spent the Fourth at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dumpke of this place. Bills are out for a great sale to be held at Keilman's store here in Dyer, beginning next Wednesday. This is another drawing card as it will surely bring hundreds of people from out of town to Dyer. The Fourth of July celebration, held at tho Catholic school grounds here yesterday, was a big success, both socially and financially. The weather being splendid, tho people turned out well, and enjoyed a very pleasant time. O'Connell of SanFranclsco spent a day with the Galvin family on Commonwealth avenue before he sailed for Europe. Walter Wright of Englewood, sop of the general manager of the American Steel Foundry company, spent the day with friends in the Harbor. Frank Balyess of Muncie, Ind., a former resident of tho Harbor, arrived here Wednesday night to spend the Fourth with former friends. Miss Anna Roak, aged 21 and Willard Hughes, aged 2-4, were united in marriage at St. Joe, Mich., on Saturday, Juno 29. The couple slipped quietly away from the Harbor and went to St. Joe remaining over Sunday, and returned to the Harbor Sunday evening to bo warmly congratulated by all their iriends and relatives. Mr. Hughes is from Alexander. Ind., and was employed here in the Inland Steel works. The couple will soon leave for Cleveland. O., to make their future home. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Trump took their little boy to Chicago Wednesday for medical treatment. Ray Nichols has gone to Chicago where he has secured a position with a plumbing establishment. Mrs. Walter Latta has been called to Buffalo, N. Y., on account of serious illness of her aged father. Tho Louisville Giants gave a very credible concert at Lewis Wood's restaurant Tuesday night. They were a gentlemanly bunch. Sam Babcock of South Chicago, visited at the home of Miss Laura Rigg, Wednesday. He played short stop for the Lowell ball team in tho game with the Louisville Giants. Powell & Latta have been awarded the building of the new brick school building to be erected on the school premises for the primary departments. The cost will be $2,000. The colored baseball team, the Louisville Giants, played their second game with the Lowell team at Oakland park Wednesday afternoon, and were defeated by a score of 9 to 6. Several hundred people witnessed tho game. The game was hotly contested, the "Giants" being determined to take away one of the games, while the local team was just as determined that it should keep it at home. Mort Dyer pitched the first four innings for Lowell, and while he pitched a good game the colored gentlemen found him readily, and owing to several errors tho visitors scored one in the second Inning, two in the third and one in the fourth. Pitcher Irwin went in the box in tho fifth and while he could not prevent them from hitting the ball, he was given good support, and one run in the seventh and one in the ninth was the best the "Giants" could do, but things looked serious for the locals several times. The home team was equally handy with the stick, and smashed out three runs in the second, four in the fifth and two in the seventh. The visitors played ball every minute and the game they put up should have defeated the local team. The score was 9 to 6 in favor of the local team. The parochial school building is almost completed and makes a very good appearing structure. A crowd of Crown Point people In four autos had their fourth of July lunch in one of our groves. Among them were Lawyer Peterson and exSheriff Daugherty and their wives. The picnic given by the Dutch Reform church was very well attended. During the day the Tannis orchestra and Swart band rendered selections. II. F. Daugherty addressed the audience in the forenoon. Refreshments were served and games were played in the afternoon. In the evening there was a large display of fireworks. CLARK STATION The Clarke Station Juniors have organized a baseball team. R. Much of Clarke, was badly bitten by his own dog yesterday. Mrs. F. Behn and Mrs. C. Kohnke of Clarke, visited friends at Ross. W. Behn of Clarke left for Toleston Wednesday to take violin lessons. ROBERTSDALE NEWS Mrs. Benjamin Oakley and Miss Elsie Lingham of Harrison avenue, were Chicago visitors yesterday. Mrs. E. C. Holmes of Harrison avenue, is entertaining her cousin, Miss Grace Jackson of Chicago. Mrs. Louis Herndobler and daughters, Misses Viola and Tracy, of Roberts avenue, spent Tuesday visiting relatives in Chicago. Mrs. Joseph Brenkus returned to her home in Indiana boulevard, after spending a week in Cleveland, O., on important business. Mrs. 1- red Egg. of Roberts avenue, returned home yesterday, after an extended visit with relatives in Waterloo, la. Miss Myrtle Gerhke of Harrison avenue, will leave in the near future for Numbark, 111., where she will spend several weeks visiting relatives. Mrs. William Kelley entertained the members of the Robertsdale Pedro club at her home in Chicago, yesterday. A most enjoyable time was had by all members present.
