BUILDING SECOND STORY. Many Oivotm of Gary Jluwlnrx lilocks Are IocreanIiiK Their Size. Prascsak Brothers company have awarded a contract to Miller & Hansen, contractors for the erection of a Becond story addition to the building they recently purchased from John IMlkovic. Miller & Hansen have several contracts of a similar nature, namely putting on second story additions. The pioneers were unable financially to buiid the larger buildings and simply put up the first story in which they could run the saloon or other business. Now the number of naloons has increased so much that the proprietors are making provision for increasing their revenue by trying to neet the demand for rooms. Briefs. Frank Wilder lias practically completed the grading of Eleventh avenue from Broadway to Adams street. Mrs. A. Gleason accompanied her brother A. F. Knotts and little nephew, Eennie Knotts, to The Springs last evening. Peterson, the excavating contractor, has moved his camp from near Jackson and Fifth avenue down near the Michigan Central, a block back from Broad"way. Contractor Gormely has nearly completed the excavation for Kcuer Bros' building just south of Fifth avenue. The contract for the building has been let and construction will begin the latter part of next week. Rev. Deuel left for his home in Evanston this morning and will return the latter part of the week. He has made arrangements for a temporary location and will probably move down the early part of next week. The Gary Amusement company lnBtalled last evening the new eighteen horse-power engine that i.v;.s . n. i .-.i last week. The usual crowd is in attendance and the management feels sanguine as to the outcome of their venture. J. F. Schmidt Bros, began work on the foundation for the Miller building on the east side of Broadway, just south of Fifth avenue this morning. Most of the material is on the ground Including the steel and they expect to have the building ready for occupancy In ninety days. The Gary & Western Railroad company has begun the putting in of concrete abuttments on each side of the Wabash tracks half a mile east of Broadway. The work is being pushed as rapidly as a large number of men and every machine known to the business can move such a work. The board of education held a meeting last evening at the home of the secretary, Mr. Cutler, on the lake front. Several new teachers were added to the corps, three of those formerly appointed having resigned, two to continue school work and one to retain the position she held formerly. The clam-shell that excavates for the sewer builders, has resumed work in alley twenty-six west of Broadway, which is the alley south of Fifth avenue. Tho brick work on the main sewer is now at tho alley west of Broadway, the completion of it thus far having already had a noticeable effect in lowering the water level near Fifth avenue and Broadway. The sand sucker of the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock company has been running now for over a week day and night. Tho enormous Moating dredge "with its equipment sucks out a thousand cubic yards of sand per hour. The contract calls for a reduction of the level to twenty-two feet below datum. This will be made with two turns of the dredge, the first turn taking off about twelve feet, the remainder being taken off the second time it covers the ground. heiiixiatism The excessive accumulation of uric acid must be eradicated from the system. Dr. Miles' Nervine used as directed for rheumatism, is alkaline in nature. It neutralizes this acid, and its soothing effect upon the irritated condition of the nerves relieves pain and induces sleep and rest. "I was suddenly taken with a sever pain in my foot. My physician could not tell what was the trouble. In a few days I had the same trouble with the other foot. I was so crippled that I could scarcely walk and at times I had to crawl on my hands and knees from my bed down stairs. After having my shoes on for an hour or two I could manage to walk by suffering the pain. I suffered more or less all Fumnaer, and tried almost everything but got no relief. Then I began to have pains all through my system. My doctor told me I had an acute attack of inflammatory rheumatism. I was in the hoi-.pital for weeks, but I was scarcely able to walk when I left It. I read about Dr. Miles' Nervine, bought a bottlo and also wrote the Mils Medical Co., for advice. They advised me to add salicylate of soda to the Nervine, and I commenced to gr-t better from the start and for the past six months have scarcely any pain, and am able to walk as well as ever." JAS.
