City Attorney Bomberger 13 preparing the resolution for widening all of the alleys south of the Michigan Cen.tral In the old and new subdivisions. All of the alleys are but twelve feet uide, and It Is the Intention to widen them to twenty feet by taking four feet off of the rear end of each lot. This will enable the town to continue the policy of the Gary Land company of using' the allews for sewer, gas and water pipes, telephone and electric light wires and poles and will go far toward making that part of Gary come up to ,the standard set In the Land company's subdivision. Schmidt Bros, company, who were awarded the contract for the erection of tho Miller building on the east side of Broadway, north of Sixth avenue, have commenced work on their contract. The Lake County Times base ball team of South Chicago will play the East Siders at One Hundred and Sixth 6treet and Avenue M, Sunday. The Iroquois Furnace company i making great headway with their new furnace. They expect to have the new plant in operation by the first o December. The Iola girls give their next party Saturday night at the Lake Side hall The hall will be decorated with club colors, purple and gold, and a delight ful time is anticipated. The Young Ladies Sodality of Fran cis de Sallls church, 120 Ewing avenue will give their first informal dancin party tonight at Bessemer park halL . good time is assured to all who at tend. The new organ at the Francis de Sallis church will be dedicated at high mass next Sunday. It is a beautiful design and a credit to the congregation. High mass will be said by the Rev. J, P. Swarth. The people of the East Side think that it will be a long time before work will be resumed at the Ship Building plant. Another boat was taken a part and sent to Bay City yesterdy. It looks bad but there is still hope for a settlement and if not, tho property is too valuable to lay vacant.

The proprietor of the Eagle buffet in Toleston has sold his stock of goods and closed his mace of business. Tol eston can only boast of six saloons at the present time. It has been reported that the dellveryman for II. Vonhelen, grocer, was held up on Wednesday by two colored men and relieved of a watch and $12 in cash in broad daylight between Gary and Toleston. Rumor has it that one of the saloons In Gary was entered some time during Wednesday night and the cash register and the slot machine were taken outside and emptied of their contents.
