READY FOR THE TRIAL
Sheriff at Boise, Ida., Rents Complete House for the Haywood Jury.

Boise, Ida., May 4. The jury Tvh!ch will try William Haywood, the first of the accused in the Steunenberg case, will k(,-ep hou?e during the trial. The law of Idaho provides that such juricc shall be kept toother and in seclusi&u from public contact, and tho highr-r courts have always insisted on a strict compliance with the provision. So, rather than take any chances with the publicity of a hotel in this case, Hheriff Iloligin, responsible for the custody of the jurors, has hired a houp for thern. The house, an attractive, well built structure, standing on a neat lawn and garden, is Just across tho street that Hanks the rear of Ada county court house, and -within about 200 feet of the court room. Will Ite Constantly Watched. To make the daily journeys of th( jury as direct as pssible the sheriff has constructed a temporary stairway from the rear of the second story of tho court house. Its upper landing Is the platform of a fire-escape, and it la reached through the ante-room of Judge Woods' chambers. The jury can therefore be taken directly to the etairway without leaving the railed enclosure of the court room. An official cook has been retained, and arrangements have been made with local stores for a good and varied supply of food. The house will be carefully and constantly watched. Entry to the open lawn will be prohibited. Arrangement of the Court lloom. Tho court room is being partly reconstructed in order to Increase seating capacity both in and outside the rail. Two unusual features of the court room are that tho jury box occupies tho space directly in front of the bench, that is generally filled by tho clerk and his imposing desk, and the witness chair is in the middle of the chamber, between the ends of counsel tables and directly in front of the middle gate' of the rail. The jury f?ifcf-3 the room, but its chairs are on "otbvels that may be swung around to pure the judge. The witness chair is on a platform and is visible from all .oints in the room. Preparing for the Press. Many extra chairs and tables are
Demg piacea on eitrser side or tn? room within the enclosure for the us of the dally press representative?, and a long desk has been built along the outer side of the rail for the special writers and artists. Special seats an? being placed for members of the Bcisa bar and the seating capacity of th public part of the room has been increased to about 300.
CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTTJKE
But at Present the Weather Is Nat Just What Is Good lor Trade. New York, May 4. It. G. Dun & Co.'s Weekly Review of Trade says: Spring retail trade is backward because of the unusually late seaon, and tardy distribution of merchandise is also causing complaint of delay la mercantile collections, but there is confidence that most of the posttonel business will be made up when the conditions become normal. Dolors purchased freely from manufacturers In anticipation of a record-breaking reason, and deliveries are still coming from the mlllsand factories, shipments being facilitated by improved traffic conditions. Manufacturers are active in all leading industries, most plants being operated full time and the outlook In the steel business could hardly be brighter. Projected building operations promise a good demand for all materials, but numerous small labor disputes retard activity in this department. Only favorable reports are received from the iron and steel industry, new business coming to the mills as rapidly as orders are filled and few producers are able to take advantage of premiums offered for prompt delivery. Ore has becrnn to move freely on the lakes. Arrangements have been made for a record year, many new vessels enlarging the carrying capacity.
