The members of the Martha society of tha Christian church met yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Pritch In Sibley street for an important business Bession. Preparations were made by the society for the Easter bazaar which they, together
with the Deborah and Men's auxiliary of the church will hold Tuesday and Wednesday of next week in Wels halL On Tuesday from 5 until S o'clock the ladies will serve a chicken dinner and Wednesday evening the Men's auxiliary have arranged a splendid program. A very pleasant meeting of the Columbia club was held yesterday after
noon at the home of Mrs. Frances Kingsley in Webb street. Cards were the entertainment for the afternoon, after which a delicious luncheon was served. Mrs. S. F. Manchee of Hyde Park was the only out of town guest. The next party will be in two weeks at the home of Mrs. Virgil S. Reiter in Webb street.
Miss Eunice Meikle is the guest of friends in Chicago this afternoon. " Miss Anna Rubin went to Chicago this morning to visit her sister, Mrs.

Mrs. Hotcbkiss of Indiana Avenue Swears Out Warrant for Arrest of Vandal Who Caused Her to Wash Her Clothes a Second Time. Mrs. Hotchkiss of Indiana avenue whose clothesline was cut in two yesterday by some person whom she be
lieves did so with a malicious purpose, helieves she knows who the vandal is, and has sworn out a warrant for his arrest. The line was cut in two in the mid
dle while the clothes were yet wet and when they were trailed in the mud the result was that they were badly soiled and had to be washed over again. The case has aroused considerable interest in the neighborhood.

was begun this morning. The building

MACHINERY ARRIVES. Now that the roof has been put on
portions of the enormous building
where steel cars are to be manufac
tured at the Standard Steel Car company's plant, the machinery which
was timed to arrive when the plant had
reached this stage of building is be
ginning to come in.
Tons of it are arriving everv day and
the parts are being rapidly installed in
the proper places. The buildings are rising rapidly arid the plant looks more
like a birth place' for steel cars than ever before.

Steel Car company, came into Hammond this afternoon and were inquiring for a doctor. Upon inquiring it was learned that the men had fallen from a scafford and one had suffered
a broken rib, another a fractured
shoulder, and the third fellow, whose name is Chas Connor, was injured
about the shoulders. It seems that the men were working on one of the
scaffolds about fifty feet In the air, when it slipped, causing them to fall.

Former Governor Garvin of Rhode Island, who is in his 66th year, is soon to be married to his blind ward, Miss Sarah Emma Tomlinson. The bride-to be, who is 33 years old, has been blind since childhood. Mr. Garvin has known her since she was a little girl.
