Mexico City, Mexico, March 13. The
White Sox defeated the champions of
Mexico yesterday, 12 to 2. making doubly certain their title of champion Del Mundo.
The Records, who won in the last
league pennant race, tackled Chicago's
priae with Juarez the crack pitcher of
the republic, on the slab, and great was the interest evincel in thf lnrnl
iwiriers showing. Jones' veterans
found him for thirteen hits, and these.
wun poor support, made the result
certain from the start. The fans nev
er wavered in their loyalty to Juarez
who holds much the some position in
their hearts as prince toreadors among
the bull fight fans.
Isbell and Donohue led in stick-
worK, lindlng the Mexican star for
three hits apiece. The Sox fielded much
better than in the opening game but a
pair of careless boots gave the homo
team two runs in the seventh in
ning.
Jones used White, Altrock and Walsh
each pitching three innings, and in
structed them to use no speed or curves.
Four hits were made off White, one off Altrock and two off Walsh. Altrock's ankle is fully recovered. The Records
lacked a catcher and Towne and McFarland were loaned to them. They made three of the Records' hits.

Davenport. Ia., March 13. The little
world beater, "Packy" McFarland of
Chicago, again last night demonstrated
himself one of the greatest fighters at his weight now before the public. In a scheduled fifteen round bout with Joe Galligan he was given the decision in
the eighth round after the latter's
trainer, Adam Ryan had thrown the
sponge in the ring to save his man from
a knockout.
At no stage of the contest did Galli
gan have a look at winning. Seven dif
ferent times ne went down before the
stiff right and left uppercuts of Packy
Joe was game but that was all. He
withstood a largo amount of punish
ment and early in the contest had a dis
tressed look upon his face which fore bodo defeat.
Galligan bled profusely at the nose
and on several occasions looked to his
corner for instructions. Not a sincle
blow of Galligan left a tolling effect on
Packy, but Joe withstood a world of punishment and in the eighth round, out of humanity's sake, his seconds threw up the sponge and Referee IIogan awarded the decision to McFarland amidst the deafening applause of 2,500
enthusiastic fight fans, including 100
from Chicago.
Ratling kelson was a spectator and
made a speech, lie conceded Packy to be one of the greatest little fighters at
his weight this country has produced.

heard of his good luck through a firm of New York lawyers. They were look-

President Comiskey is thoroughly satisfied with the results of the training trip to date and has started plans to return here in 190S, but for a much more pretentious Journey. The present plans are for a visit to Yucatan and Central America, making a greater part of the spring trip by water. A conference this morning with the agent of the Ward line steamers resulted in the latter's beginning to outline the 1903 trip early and to complete plans before fall. If suitable they will be accepted, the start to be made earlier and by a steamer to be used from New Orleans for most of the journey except for short trips inland. The plan is to come here for a week, landing at Vera Cruz, only 200 miles distant.
The athletic managements of both
Wabash and Indiana have sent word to Manager Draper, of the Notre Dame track meet, that they will be at the 'varsity for the triangular meet next Saturday. According to reports from
the down state institutions the teams are practicing hard for the meet, and each hopes, if unable to defeat Notre Dame, to beat the other in the final score of the events. Wabash men are anxious to show that the victory over the state college team was no fluke and the Bloomington athletes will endeavor Just as hard to show that it was. It is probable that entries from the down state schools will arrive at. the 'varsity in a day or two, but so far Manager Draper is in the dark not
only about the make-up of the visiting aggregations, but about the 'varsity
squad itself. The men are practlcin
in the gym every day for the meet
and there is a big bunch of candidates for the meet.
The baseball candidates are at work
each afternoon In the gym, the plan to get the men out on the diamond hav
ing been frustrated by the unfavorable weather. The weather though warm
enough to play ball In has been a little too damp to be just the thing and
the ground is altogether too wet at
this time. The baseball dates left vacant by
the cancellation of the eastern trip will
be filled with games with western
schools, it was stated at the 'varsity
today. The chances are that the dates
will be filled easily, for the western
schedules are mostly Incomplete.
