That the citizens of West Hammond will put up an independent ticket before the spring election of village officers seems to be a fact. On account of the fact that most of the men nominated are residents of the south side, the citizens of the north and west side are bound to have some men of their choice put forward. The probable candidates on the independent ticket have not yet been made public. But this will probably be done before the end of the week. Adam Stachowiscz. the defeated candidate for village treasurer will undoubtedly run on the independent ticket. Peter Mak, the present president, who has acquired notoriety all over the state by' his high-handed administration of his office, has nearly two months to serve the village in the capacity of president and says he will bo glad when the weight of the village responsibility Is taken off his shoulders. He says this as though he meant it, but those who know him say he will shed more than one briny tear when he has to give up his office. On account of the ill-feeling toward some of the candidates elected on the

democratic ticket, the chances look good for some of the independent candidates. licgin Misnpproprintion Investigation. The active investigation of the $700 that has been misappropriated from the village treasury will be begun to

day by the finance committee, assisted byVillage Attorney Markman, who will come out from the city today. Contractor Ilealy, who has the sewer contract is also out, having returned from Hot Springs, Ark., and is looking over the ground preparatory to beginning active work Friday.
