TOLESTON IS FOEHANDED.

Twelve meek and repentent Gibson

laborers were picked up by the police

yesterday charged with drunkeness and

disorderly conduct. Two paid their

fines, one was released on his own rec

ognizance and nine went to Crown !

Point to board at the expense of the county for a while.

Cause Payday at the Gibson yards

and on the Erie railroad.

Effect Eleven men have had the

time of their lives, have been given plenty of time to rue it.

Yesterday morning the sousing pro

cess began.

. About noon the first man had been

sufficiently pickled to warrant his being taken to the cooler and before six o'clock there was a continual procession of blue coats to and from the police station.

They departed empty handed but in

variably returned with an armfull of boisterous, protesting, foolish, limber

humanity. The jail was a sight. One of the drunks, Ed Young had reached

the delirium tremens stage and all dur

ing the night his ravings terrified all

who came within hearing distance of him.

This morning a wet towel and a little

ice would have been as welcome as

a drop of water to some inhabitant of Hades but such things were unobtain

able and so the twelve men with the

morning after feeling had to content

themselves with holding their heads

and bewailing their fate.

Early in the morning the motley

crowd was taken before Judge Mc

Mahon who, listened to the monotonous

"yes" or saw the significant nod of the head in answer to his question, "Are

you guilty?"

The sentence was pronounced on all

of the prisoners at the same time with

the exception of one who claimed that

he was wot drunk and had been picked

up by the police simply because he

was with a few saturated compan

ions.

The prisoners occupied the jury Beats

In the justice court and when the

judge had finished pronouncing sen

tence on the . last man. Chief of Police

Rimbach thought it best to facilitate

matters, and so he said to the men:

"All of you who want to go to jail

stand up, and all who want to pay your

fines sit still."

For a while it looked as though the

twelve men would vote unanimously for a twenty day incarceration, but

two of them managed to procure the necessary $11 from the depths of their pockets and were released. The oth

ers formed a picnic party and started

for Crown Point on the next train.

The following were the victims of

last night's haul:

Ed Young, Harry Trempar, Pat Mc-

Farland, Charles Wyndham, John

O'Brien, H. Donohue, John Lavin, John

Berg, Tom Keslar, James Mack, James

Carroll and Henry McDonald.

The Loyal Americans claim a membership approximating 25,000 persons, and it is operating in twenty-four states.
