SA VETWO CENTS A DAY YOU CAN OWN A FARM We mean what we say. "The Marvin Plan" enables any one who will put away a small sum each day to own a farm that he can liva on, or lease ort, and in either case have a good income for life. Land is situated in the most productive belt in the United States. Aa absolutely safe, sure and profitable investment far superior to a savings bank. Let us explain the plan to you. It is money in your pocket ' to know our method of doing business. TRENHOLM, MARVIN & CO. D, 605 Baltimore Building, Chicago, III.
Philadelphia, Sept. S. Forprories for more tban a quarter of a million of dollars by Frank K. Hippie, the suicide president of the defunct Ileal Estate Trust company, have been discovered by Receiver Earle. The latter made this statement himself, addinjr that he had no idea where Hippie's villainy would end. Hippie, In order to meet his immense overdrafts, used the names of some of the most prominent business men of the city on notes which insouie cases amounted to ?ir0,X);).
Had Copied Men's Signatures. The president had taken copies of the signatures of a number of business men while some of their cheeks or negotiable securities passed through his hands, but in every case he avoided the use of the name of a Real Estate Trust company depositor. When pinched for money to meet his overdrafts or some big Sega! loan, Earle said, as a last re
sort Hippie would draw up n note with
the forged signature attached. This he
would take to the cashier or paying teller, saying he had personally made the loan, and it was discounted. With the amount to his credit he would satisfy the pressing claim. Karle to Accept the Presidency. Receiver Earle said that in order to accomplish the reorganization of the Real Estate Trust company he would acept the presidency if the depositors insisted. Earle's decision to accept the presidency of the institution ca'.Me aft
er much pressure. had been brought to bear upon him and after his announce
ment made earlier in the evening, that he would not accept. It is now believed that an early reorganization of the company is assured. The directors, it is asserted, have pledget! themselves to advance jjvJ.CK 50,000: creditors will take preferred stock worth $l,r0,000, and Segal's securities will be sold for $2.500,1)00. In his way the institution can be again placed on a sound basis. Trust Fstates Are Intact. It has developed that the last- state examination of the trust company was made by Ranking Commissioner Reeder in 1002. Robert McAfee, .who was state banking commissionerfrom April, 1003, to July, 1005, made no examination, and Commissioner Rerkey, who succeeded McAfee, also failed to examine the institution. The two expert accountants appointed by Commissioner Rerkey to investigate the conditions of the concern at the end of their first day's work announced that they found the trust estates, of which the Real Es
tate Trust company . acted as trustee, to be intact. ....

Trade Outlook Is Bright, However. New York, Sept. 8. K. G. Dun & Co.'s Weekly Review of Trade says: Money market irregularities had no ill
effect on legitimate business, and prices of secxirities quickly rallied wuen
gold Imports were arranged. Scarcity of labor is a much more important trade influence, restricting production of factories and causing delays in harvesting of crops, while structural work is also retarded. Leading centers are crowded by interior buyers who place liberal orders, especially for wearing apparel. Quotations are well maintained, and some improvement is noted in collections. Wholesome reports from the iron and steel industry and expectation of large crops have developed a tone of confidence in the commercial world that makes the outlook bright and encourages new undertakings. Resumption of
work at window glass factories has been deferred because of the large stock on hand, but in most industries there is more complaint on account of inadequate supplies. Failures this week in the United
States are 133, against 170 last week, lbT the preceding week and ISO the corresponding week last year. Failures in Canada number S, against 14 last week, 34 the preceding week and 23 last year.
Another Privilege for Jews. St. Petersburg, Sept 8. The BatJnoff commission, which is elaborating reforms for the army, has recommended admission of Jews to the officer corps, from which hitherto they have been excluded, except in the capacity of surgeons. Ten-Hour Day for Sawmills. Lake Charles, La. .Sept. 8. Every sawmill on the lake and river In this vicinity, except the two mills of the Longbell Lumber company, has agreed to the requirements of Its employes for a ten-hour day and a weekly pay day.
announcement of its readiness to grant
a ten days' armistice is the blowing up of two bridges on the Western railway, the cutting of railway commiuii-
cnuon beyond I'inar uei iuo vny una an attack on San Juan de Martiue?. It is believed here that San Juan de Martinez is in the hands of the insurgents, and that the garrison, consisting of 100 government recruits and a small force of mounted rural guards, has been defeated or captured, Guerra Is the Whole Thing. The fact that other leaders of the Insurrection are willing to agree to an armistice can have little effect so long as Guerra is determined to prosecute the war, and there is slight doubt in any quarter that Guerra can control the situation in his region. His force
is reported by all those who ha.ve vis- j ited him recently as ranging from 3.000 to 4,000 men. all of them well mounted and some of them well and others indifferently armed. The government force opposed to him, which is under command of Colonel Avalos, comprises about 1,000 men. It was reinforced last evening by Lieutenant
Colonel Clews with 1H0 men and three machine guns from Havana.
He Has Just One Condition. General Menocal said that Guerra
evidently had not been informed that
the government had actually, although Informally, granted an armistice, adding that a second committee had been sent to him, but could not reach him
before toJ?ty. The fact is, however, that Guerra refuses point blank to
accept an armistice except on condition that the last presidential and con
gressional elections shall be annulled. That the government should consent to this is out of the question, and so at this time every prospect points to
the continuance of the war. Liberals Getting Crusty, Also. In connection with Pino Guerra's at
titude it is notable that the Liberals'
have grown more independent. They
say that on account or the government's surveillance and prosecutions they will no longer hold meetings and
that it Is useless to consider peace un
der the circumstances.

York. Secretary Shaw has prohibited national bank depositories from sending their funds to New York to be loaned for speculative purposes'. Senator Depew is reported so much improved in health that he will attend next session of congress. Sir Thomas Lipton will arrive in Chicago the first week of October. A revolution is in progress at Mogador, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Secretary Shaw has left Washington for a campaign tour of Virginia, North Carolina. Tennessee, Missouri and oth
er states. Asphyxiation, chloroform and drowning were the methods used by Claude Unger, a wealthy business man of St Louis, to commit suicide. The sultan of Morocco's troops have defeated the forces of the pretender, and Bu Harnara has fled from Zelouan. Pope Fius has appointed J.McGrain, of New York, the conductor of the latest pilgrimage from this country to Rome, a Knight of St. Gregory.
Four hundred neighbors of William J. Bryan gave him and his wife a reception at the Methodist church near their home. The bouse of representatives of Victoria, Australia, after an all-night sitting, fixed the duty of harvesters at $tUI and strippers at $30. Brigadier General Robert M. O'Reilly, who has been surgeon general of the army for the past four years, has

Although It Was Armored the Rebete
Force It to Turn Back.
Havana, Sept. 8. General Manager Livesey, of the Western railway, in
formed the Associated Press that the
special train carrying machine guns
and troops from Havana had not arrived at Tinar del Rio. Upon reach
ing Las Sovas it was found that a
freight train preceding it was held ifp
by a large number of rebels. The troop
train was unable to pass, and after ex
changing hre with the rebels it re
turned to Los Palacios. According to a telegraphic report the train was
obliged to come back because the lo comotive was out of water.
The railroad officials are unable to
understand the matter, as the first and
last cars of the troop train were stee
armored and the troops could safely
hare fortified themselves in them. Live
sey expects that the inscrgents wil
continue to prevent troops from reaching Pinar del Rio, as the telegraph wires have been cut at Rio Fe, east of Pinar del Rio city. Neither the railroad officials nor members of the government have learned the outcome of the reported attack on San Juande Martinez. An attack upon Pinar del Rio city also is greatly feared. The bridges on the eastern railway which were destroyed by Tino Guerra, both are small. The insurgents threaten to destroy larger bridges if there are further attempts to transport troops over the railway. The talk of the veterans is tending to become more aggressive, and they
urge action rather than peace endeavor?, as being the more practical means of ending hostilities. All regard the blowing up of an English company's railroad bridges as a serious matter, and likely to invite international ac
tion by Great Britain, or at least an
interrogation of the government at Washington by Great Britain ns to whether the former Intends to intervene to end war conditions in Cuba.
