"John Brown's P.ody." Attacks the Hepublieans. In the afternoon addresses on John. Rrown were delivered by W. K. I. Dubois and Rev. Pcverdy C. Hansom, of P.oston. Hansom declared that (Jol sent John Drown to Harper's Ferry "to become traitor to the government in order that he might be true to the slave." He discussed the political rights of the negro. "The present occupant .of the White liouse," he said, "has been absolute!? silent on tha question of the enforcement of thv fifteenth amendment: while his secretary of we; has admitted the violation of the constitution he has recently in a notable address only condoned, if not tacitly indorsed it. Chideil by Secretary Taft, "Secretary Taft, speaking for the president, chides us by saying that th

negroes are political children: that they have shown their incapacity to maintain their political rights, it is true that the negro had a child-like faith in the Republican party, believing that it would administer the saere I trust which the fortunes of war and the constitution had imposed upon it, I and that it would not use him like a ! gambler's stake in the game of noli- !

He is being disillusioned by the acts of a Republican congress, the speeches of members of a Republican cabinet, and the silence of a Republican president. He should not hesitate to repudiate his former friends who have betrayed him, nor refuse to fraternize with former enemies who are willing to give him aid. While lie remains a political is'sue he must insist upon making his power felt and his rights respected." Her Brother Was with Ftuwn. Mrs. Henrietta R. Evans, a sister of Fewis S. President Borrows Too Much ;f the 1 un.ls lint PepoMitor Will I.oe Nothing. Chelsea, Mass.. Aug. is. Following the official information given by Hank Evanaintr Ewer to the comptroller at Washington that the fa flu re of the First National bank, of Chelsea, the doors of which were closed Thursday night, was due to excessive loans made to olhcers and directors of the bank, it has become understood that the principal factor in tlie suspension of tlie bank was a large indebtedness on the part of its 'resident, Sylvester P.. Hinckley. This indebtedness is unofficially estimated rit from $."(m,(h';0 to .Sri'0.000. but statements inade by directors of the bank indicate that President Hinckley has transferred to the insti-
