Miss Idabelle Daugherty has returned from a three weeks visit, in Allegan, Mich, with Mrs. Eugene Cooper, and Misses Jennie Mabbs and Lulu Symmes. Mrs. M. Neff and son Harry of Cedar Rapids, la. are the guests of Mrs. E. R. Stauffer. Harry Neff belongs to the navy and will soon leave for Norfolk, Va. . Miss Cora Higginbotham, who has been visiting Mrs. Frank DuComb of 302 South Hohman street, will return to her home in Decatur tomorrow. Mrs. E. C. Minas and children are expected to return this evening from a visit with her brothers in North Manchester, Attica and Williamsport. Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Shultz, 930 North Itohmaa street, received last evening in celebration of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary 'The evening was spent in social talk and games and at 12 o'clock a threecourse supper was served. In spite of the threatening weather the fore part of last evening, the lawn social given by Mrs J. B. Haliburton and the members of her class in the Baptist Sunday school, was a decided success. The lawn was prettily decorated with Japanese lanterns and an orchestra gave several selections. The young ladies in charge of the tables were Misses Clara Porch, Frances Hamacher, Dolly Cetb. Bessie Porch, Maud Lewis. Emma and Leofa Hoffman Margarie Suter and Mable Dinwiddle.

New York, Aug. 10. Stocks were devoid of feature during the early trading, and in the absence of outside speculation, professional traders were inclined to buy the standard rails for a turn. Their operators produced a small rally from last last night's closing prices, with the trade as usual centered in the Pacifies, grangers and a few of the anthracite coal carriers. F. B. Hall has established another news stand in town. The last addition is on the corner of State and llohman streets and is in charge of Tom Doran.

The plans have been made for an enormous addition to the Reed.-Murdoch plant in this city. The building is to be a ware house and will be 200x750 feet. The extension will result in the employment of several hundred more men and will cost $30,000 to $40,000. When interviewed this afternoon one of the officials of the company admitted that the plans had been made but declined to state when the work would begin.

VACATION TOR HAIL CARRIERS.

Postmaster William Gostlin has received word from the postal department at Washington that all mail carriers who have been in the service twelve months or more, are allowed an annual vacation of fifteen days with full pay, the order to take effect from July 1. This applies specifically to the rural mail carriers and the only one to be affected by this order in Hammond, is Joseph Miller, and his first year does not expire until the fifteenth of this month. The eleven city carriers, however, are taking their vacation by turns. The postmaster general has authorized rural route carriers to use automobiles instead of horses in making their trips, if they want to. A special form of the Orient buck-

RJUN AND PROVISION WET

Two bicycles came together today at the corner of Ogden and Hohman streets. The accident was due to the blocked street and narrow passage way at the crossing. Both riders headed for the sidewalk and the result was a collision. Neither were seriously hurt.
