HOW MUCH IS THIS BILL WORTH?

Mr. J. J. Dreesen. the agent at

the Pennyslvania railroad depot at

Last Chicago is the possessor of an

old one dollar bond issued by the State of Massachusetts Bay. It is dated December 31, 1786 and pays interest at the rate of 5 per cent per, annum.

On the face of the notes are the

words in old English letters: "The

United States ensures the pavment

of the within bill and will draw- birts

of exchange for the interest annual

ly, if demanded; according to a reso-

l..J r

iui:u:i ui congress on the ISth of March. 1S70." The name of Peter Dover was signed. On the reverse side were the words, "The State of Massachusetts Bay," No. 21, 460C. The possessor of this bill shall be paid one Spanish milled dollar by the 31st day of December, 1S76. with interest in like money at the rate of 5 per cent per annum.

It has been estimated that if the

although they liked the idea of a

championship series would give It

their support, but for the fact that they all have games scheduled so

far ahead that it would be impossi

ble to schedule a series if one was

arranged for He has not given up the idea however, and will

make it a point to arange a series

next year if the movement to form a league does not assume form and make the series unnecessary.

. Chicago Blanks Phillies Twice. Chicago went up the rungs of the ladder to the pennant- two at a time yesterday when they defeated the PhiiadVlrhias in both games of

a double header and then shut them

out. The "ffrst game was the best one, the score being 1 to 0. The inmost to Phi life's defeat but Doetaoin ility to hit Brown contributed most to the Phillies' defeat, but Doolin's fine work for Philadelphia was a big factor in keeping the score down to

a single run. Chicago's one run

was made in the seventh after Thomas had robbed Chance of a hit by a

star running catch, making the sec

ond out. Magee then lost StiVn-

feldt's drive in the high wind and

muffed it. Tinker hit a short fly to right which Titus failed to get

and Steinfeldt scored.

The second game was won by the

score of 7 to 0 and in this eise it!

was the masterly pitching of Ruelbach that won the game. So effective was he that Thomas in the third and Titus in the ninth were tte only ones to reach second. Even sec

ond base was only touched bv fiv

Will Be Wabash Tomorrow. The St. Louis Republic has the following report of a game .which will give an idea of the kind of a game they are putting up.

The Wabash team of St. Louis arrived yesterday morning from Sibley, 111., which team they met and shut out Sunday, in one of the fastest games played this season, by the score of 4 to 0. It took just one

hour and fifteen minutes for the game. For the railroad boys' showing too much credit cannot be given to Betts. their crack twirler, who allowed his oponents but three hits not giving a pass or making a pitching break of any kind. After the

first and second innings in each of

which four men faced him. the Sibley boys went out In one, two, three

order. Pope helped matters by taking care of four difficult chances. For Sibley, Boris played an excellent game, robbing Smith of two that looked like sure extra sackerc. Frederking also played an excellent game

at short. Saturday, August A the

Wabash team will leave for Chicago to play the Hammond, Ind., team at

Hammond on Sun'4aj ' ;

Hammond, Ind.,, July IS, 1906. Sealed bids will ..be received by the advisory board and township trustee until 12 noon, tharp, Aug. IS,
