STAY-AT-HOME FRIENDS REMEMBER B. L. P. BELL. Send Some "Creature Comfort." Which he Overlooked When He Was Loading His Wagon. ; B. L. P. Bell although lost to sight a held dear in memory by his Hammond neighbors. Ben, as they call him, is now enjoying the dolce far niente at his summer cottage on the shore of Lake Winnebago, Wis. It seems that he overlooked something when he started overland for his sumer home. His fiends got to gether last night and arranged to supply the deficiency. The following communication "striped of its legal verbiage" warrants the belief that within 4S hours at the outside, Ben will have a touch of heme comfort that will get close to his heart. "After a very careful investigation along scientific lines, your friends here, if you have any, have discover od that the woods and swamps in the vicinity where you are hiding from justice have produced an ab normal crop of snakes the present year, and also one of the boys who has the power of second sight, has had a vision in which he can see you in the agony of snake bite. Now. out of respect to your family, and that you may not escape justice, we have procured a prescription from some of the most prominent medical men in this country and Hessville. and at great pains and expense the undersigned have forwarded the same to you. Call at the express office at Fon du Lac and the same will be delivered to you. Dr. Fitzgerald orders that you take a few doses before bathing and a few after, and if not dead within a reasonable time, repeat the dose. He also says that you are a fool to venture away from your guardian without making proper preparations, and will order ; that a sanity inquest be held as soon j as you return, which by the way, the 1 good people and all law-abiding citij zens of this city and locality hope j will be a long time from now.
"Trusting that you will use the remedy to such an extent that you will see things that do not live, even in the woods of Wisconsin, we remain, yours." : Then follows a list of names which this paper is requested not to publish.
PRISON FARM SUCCESS. An adjunct to the state prison that is a source of considerable profit is the prison farm. It contains 101 acres of rich, black soil, as level as a floor. The entire farm is high state of cultivation. under a A few acres is planted in corn, and the re-; mainder in peas, beans, letuce, rad-1
dishes, onions, beets, tomatoes, pars- o, Cleveland 2: at Chicago Washingnips, potatoes, cabbage and turnips, j ton Chicago 4. Of all these, with the exception of Association: At Louisville- Indi-
parsnips, potatoes, tomatoes and cabbage, not yet in season, plenty for the prisoners there is ; dining room. The prison does not have to ; buy any of these products except potatoes, which are used in great quantities, and thus the cost of living is reduced at the prison, while the convicts have a variety of food that they otherwise would not receive. Their health is greatly improved in consequence. During the busy season fifteen "trusties" are employed on the farm, under the diiection of a practical farm-guard: NOTICE TO BIDDERS. SMITH, Administrator. Dated July 21, 190G. Crumpacker & Moran, attorneys for Administrator. Slips For "nest" Bloniies. Some girl with a love of pretty thing? hit upon the clever idea of makine great bags and slips, with which she covered her best bibs and tuckers, of flowered stuff instead of the usual plain white muslin affairs. The open door of that closet reveals a pretty sight instead of a rather funereal effect the muslin shroudings are bound to give. Choosing a closely woven material, so that the dust is as safely defied as when a stout muslin is the shield, is the only point tli.it need be looked to. Have some of the covers big. sheet-like affairs. There are certain gowns which kep in better condition if something is folded carefully about them than if they are slipped into the roomiest of bags. And put loops upon bags or wrapping sheet, so that their weight, little as it mar seem, will bir directly upon the closet hooks instead of adding its mite to dragging the delicat? skirt or blouse out of shape. j Subscribe for the Lake County Times,

NOTES OF SPORT. Harvey Blair is still undecided as to which college will do him the most good. Strange as may seem, Indianapolis is one of the few hyens left open to the professional boxer. The American Association of Baseball clubs is washing its dirty linen in Chicago today. Myron Mcllenry has deserted the rimers and returned to his first love, the trotters. The way he drove Ann Direct, winner of the M. and M. stake at Cleveland shows that he had not broken his old tools. When Game Is Lost, Spuds Win. Although the game was won to all appearances by the Phillies, the Sox took advantage of an exceptional niece of good luck and managed to score two runs in the ninth and win tne game, uuggieny s pitching up to the fatal ninth was a masterful exhibition and the White Sox found him simply invincible. But in the ninth when Duggleby was trying to catch Slagle between second and third Slagle ducked and fell and Duggleby fell over him. Slagle was on his feet in a second and was soon safely on third. A wild throw permitted Slagle to score and then Chance chopped a swift one to right and Schulte, who had reached third when Slagle came in, scored. Sox Take Fourth of Series. The White Sox duplicated the Spud trick of winning the whole series by defeating the Senators yesterday by the score of 4 to 3. Chicago ran along with a lead of three scores until the eighth Inning when Washington actually became threatening. A batting rally in the next to the last inning was what did the business. There was an error or two on the part of the Sox and three tallies for Washington was the result. rauerson ana ivitson were tne oij posing siabmen.
