MAN HUNT IN OHIO Miscreant Is Chased All Night and Part of a Day, but Is FinalCaptured. Zanesville, O., July 25. A man hunt through the woods of Perry county that began Monday night ended in a victory for the pursuers in the woods near Glouster yesterday. While the 8-year old daughter of Charles Hamof Misco, was picking blackbershe was seized by a man named Lew Eblin. Her screams brought her elder brother to her rescue and Eblin fled. The neighborhood was aroused and a
posse was formed, Deputy Sheriff King, with his bloodhound, being with
the posse. When the posse came on
Eblin he surrendered without a fight,
but he had severely wounded the blood-
hound.
Effect of the Eight-Hour Order.
Washington, July 25.-The applica-
tion of the president's order relative to the enforcement of the eight-hour law
in the case of government contract
work has proved difficult in the war
department. The opinion among the
executive officers is that the rigid apof the order will sound the
death knell of the whole system of
government contract work, and that
hereafter the government will be

NEWS FACTS IN OUTLINE Governor Ide, of the Philippines, ha requested military aid to punish th Pulajanes in the province of Leyte. The funeral services over the bod of the late Russell Sage were held the First Presbyterian church at Fa Rockaway, Long Island. Several hundred car repairers of the Southern Pacific company at New Or leans have struck for "recognition ot the union." At a meeting of the Republican state executive committee of Alabama it was decided to put out a full state ticket Ed. Gibbons, 24 years old, a mawhose home is at Wabash, Ind., was drowned in Lake Gilbert, near Brainerd, Minn. The Utah Socialist state convention has nominated William S. Dalton, of Salt Lake City, for judge of the su
preme court, and Homer P. Burt, of Salt Lake City, for representative in congress. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Longwortli have arrived at Karlsbad, The freight handlers of the Southern Pacific at West Oakland, Cal., have gone on strike, demanding an increase of 2 1/2 cents per hour. Robert S. McCormick, United States ambassador to France, and Mrs. Mchave arrived at New York. The only business done at the secsession of the Pan-American conat Rio Janeiro, was to elect Secretary Root an honorary president Queen Wilhelmina has against dis appointed her subjects in their hope for an heir to the throne. Eleven persons are known to have been killed by the collapse of the building in South Framingham, Mas

it simply lodged in the bone between the outer and the inner layers. Neff was conscious when seen at the hospital this morning, but his condition is stlll serious and it is possible that he may die. The eleof greatest danger to the wound lies in the fact that the piece of hat and tufts of hair which were carried into the wound by the bulwere not removed for several hours and may cause the inflammathat would result in the man's death. At the last reports Conductor Young and Motorman Baxter were
much improved and it is said they
will suffer no lasting or permanent injuries as a result of their exciting experience. Mr. Davies of the claim department of the South Chicago City railway, telephoned that the car crew would be unable to appear at the trial today and asked that it be postponed until later on. A peculiar coincidence is the fact that upon the arrival of Neff's wife at the court house at 10:30 last
night, she found herself facing her husband charged with attempted manslaughter in the very place where they had been married less than a year ago.
Came Back for Revenge. A week ago Young found it necesto put Neff off his car. Yesterhe left the car barns at South hicago to relieve one of the other conductors and found among his pasthe man with whom he had trouble. The assault took place at Forsyth corner. Assault Took Place. As soon as Young saw Neff he was afraid of trouble and sought to avoid
him. At the Knickerbocker switch
near Wolf river, he even went to the trouble to get off the front end of the car in order to run across the track, but in spite of those precauNeff and two friends, Joe Billand Robert J. Peck, went from the smoking car to the rear platform where the conductor was standing fter boarding the car at the other side of the switch. Neff asked the conductor what he meant by putting him off the car the week before, and Young replied that he had merely obeyed the company's orders in reto intoxicated passengers. With this reply Young stepped inide of the car and was struck from the rear and knocked into one of the seats at the end of the car. This did not seem to satisfy Neff's wrath for he threw the helpless conductor down on the floor and proceeded to stamp on his face and kick his body
with all his might.
Attack Motorman. Motorman Baxter stopped the car
and went to the rescue of his mate.
J. Billings, one of the trio, struck
him a heavy blow and felled him to one of the seats. Here Billings
with no motive for his attack, punch
ed the staggering motorman to his
heart's content. Peck, the third
member of the party, who evidently
concluded that the matter had gone far enough, pulled the two men from
their victims and forced them out of
the car.
Baxter managed to struggle to his feet and make his way through
the rear door of the car to the ground. Here he pulled a revolver
nd started for Neff. Peck grabbed
he motorman from the rear and ried to prevent him using the gun n the fleeing man. Baxter managed o pull away from Peck and fired. The passengers were panic-strick
en. Women screamed and big men tood by helplessly, and did not
seem to dare to interfere. Eventual
ly all of the passengers managed to
leave the car and were outside and witnessed the shooting by Baxter.
They saw Neff stagger forward,
clutch his hat which had been
knocked off by the bullet and then
clap his hands to his head. He disin the cornfield near by.
