The following visitors from East Chicago spent the day with Mrs. A. C. Huber; Mr. and Mrs. J. S. ReiMrs. G. E. Reiland, Mrs. Frank Reiland and Mrs. J. D. Williasm. Senator T. Edwin Bell and B. E. Escher of Hammond made an extour here today. The "Bad Boy" was not in evidence. Mr. Stanton, of Truman avenue in Hammond, also called on us toHe was looking after business interests and expressed satisfaction with the prospects. T. E. Knotts left for Chicago this morning to arrange for the postoffice furniture, to be installed in the building which is now about ready for occupancy. The suburban service begins today. This means two more trains a day for us, making in all seven trains a day through here. The new train will arrive here about 11:45 in the morning, go on to Millers station, and lay over, rethrough here about 12:45 or an hour later, on its way to ChiThis will make it possible to visit here on Sunday, either a short while or all afternoon. Grading has begun on Fifth aveFrank Wilder has the work and is rushing it along with his characteristic vim. The work is being pushed westward from Broadto connect with the grading that Prohl is doing two thousand feet west of Broadway. By the end of the week Broadway will be about ready for the paving contractors. It presents a grand sight, the broad stretch, one hunfeet wide, stretching away to the north from the Wabash tracks for over a mile. When paved with brick it will present an appearance that no other street in any city in Indiana can rival. The putting in of the concrete sewer on the north side has already begun. Over one hundred feet of it are laid. This is part of the six thousand feet contracted for and will comprise all of the sewer system for the north side. The 25 miles of
sewer mentioned before, is for the ess and residence section on the side of the river. Two car loads wheelbarrows were unloaded yesand are now being used in the construction of the sewers. Work commences this morning laying a dinky track along the slip where the "orange-peeler" is to make the twenty foot cut for straightening the river. This is to dispose of the large quantities of sand. It will be used for filling in along the river in what is termed the "swale." The two concrete mixers and pumps are now working at the foundations for two of the furnaces. The excavations for the first two are sixty feet in diameter, and thirty feet deep. This entire excavation will be filled with concrete and will form the bottom of the furnace, the stack of the blast-furnace rising diabove the concrete. There are to be two more concrete beds of similar dimensions, making four in all. The enormous amount of maand work incidental to the preparation of the foundation for the stack alone, will give a faint idea of the magnitude of the underthat are being carried out here. All of the material, the cecrushed stone, etc., will be carried up and dumped into the mixon endless belts, and from the mixers large scoops on an endless chain will carry the concrete out into the excavations, thus lessening the amount of manual labor to a very great degree. How Fatigue is Caused. The fatigue felt after muscular exis chiefly due to the formation
within the muscles themselves of cer
tain nitrogenous poisons which are the result of chemical action going on and which have a paralyzing action on the muscular fibers. These poisons are formed by the breaking up of certain reserve materials which exist in th muscles without actually forming an essential portion of them. When these reserve materials are thus split up they give out energy which may be availas a source of heat or as a cause of motion. They accumulate in the tis-
sues of persons who lead sedentary lives, and when such people take much exercise they are very liable to an atof gout or feverish prostration, owing to the sudden accumulation within the blood of too many wast products for the kidneys to remove at once. The immunity from fatigue pos-
ossessed by those who are continua
exercising is due to the fact that thes reserved materials have been gradually removed during the course of training and little remains capable of producing gouty poisons when much exercise is
