Dumas Named Red Cross Chairman

Rensselaer Attorney Elected At Meeting Of Directors Last Evening; Succeeds Ralph Fendig Thomas Dumas, Rensselaer attorney, will succeed Ralph h endig a< chairman of the Jasper County chapter of the American Red Cross for the coming year. The election took place last evening at the Board of Directors’ annual meeting in the First Christian Church basement hail. Action was also taken to fill several vacancies in the twelveperson board. It was thought desirable that each section of the county be represented in the board’s complement. Other chapter officers will remain the same, with j I Mrs. Keith Padgitt serving as

secretary and Paul Neininger as treasurer. Dr. Lawrence Bowman, who | successfully headed the 1949 Red (boss Fund Drive, is already ! marshaling his forces throughout the county in preparation for the next campaign in March, 1950, i National Red Cross Month.

A br.ief review of the treasurer’s report for the last year shows that the, county chapter was active in disaster relief where individual families were involved. The chapter also gave financial assistance when needed and contributed toward safety of swimmers at the new municipal pool. These disbursements amounted to approximately $1,400. A required remittance of nearly sl,850 was made to the Red Cross National Headquarters.

Not included in the financial report were the numerous donations of food, furniture, clothing and services distributed through the Red Cross to those in need. Concluding the meeting were two Red Cross movies, “All Together,” depicting the activities of the Junior Red Cross, and “Danger Is Your Companion,” showing the advantages of knowledge of first aid gained through various Red Cross training coursI es.
