Wm. A. Hartley Passes Away
Death Comes After Twin-Year Illness Of Heart Complications; Rites Tuesday William A. Hartley, a resident of Rensselaer proper since 1937 and of the county since 1906, died at 8:50 o’clock Sunday evening at the home of his son, Albert, on N. Cullen street where he made his home in reoent years. The death of Mr. Hartley resulted from heart complications which had affected him for two years. He suffered a severe seizure last week and from that time on he declined swiftly. Mr. Hartley was born in Scott county, Indiana, February 17, 1876, a son of Albert Hartley and Lottie (Hubbard) Hartley. His boyhood years and his earlier married years were spent in the community of his birth. On July 3, 1898, he was married to Belle Smith of Scott county, where they continued to live until coming to Jasper county in 1906. For many years they lived in the Virgie and Kniman communities, and upon their retirement from farm life in 1937 they came here to make their home. Surviving besides the widow are the following children: Mrs. Clarence ‘Smith, Mrs. Raymond Graham, Mrs. Elvin Pass, Mrs. Estol Myers, Mrs. Michael Schultz and Albert Hartley, jr., all living in this community. Other immediate survivors include two half-sisters, Mrs. Lydia Lehman and Mrs. Robert Riney, both of Indianapolis, several grandchildren and nephews and nieces. Mr. Hartley was a highly esteemed citizen of quiet mannerisms. During his years here he gained many friends who admired him for his kindness, excellent habits and qualities of good citizenship. His death brought sorrow to many. The funeral services were held from W. J. Wright Chapel at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial was made at Weston cemetery.
