Polio Cases In State Hit 242
Cool Weather May Have Slowed Down Disease, Experts De- -■ dare Indianapolis, Aug. 2. Public Heath officials declined today to make optimistic statements on the basis of weekend figures, which seemed to indicate the rate of rise in the number of polio cases was slowing down in Indiana. Only nine new cases were reported to the State Health Board today the 48-hour period that elapsed after the Board’s offices closed last Saturday. There have been no.deaths since last Friday, when four occurred within a few hours. This raised the total to 242 cases since Jan. 1, and the death toll remainded at 25, the same figure as more than 60 hours ago. Dr. W. C. Anderson, Epidemiologist for the Health Board, said it was too early to tell if cool weather of the last three day 3 was stopping the spread of the disease. He said also he would have to wait a few days to see whether the short rise in 48 hours was significant.
