4-H Club News
Dandy Hand A regular meeting of the Union Township Dandy Hand Club met at the home of Wilma Alexander on July 7th at 1:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by the president, Darlene Vlahos and the 4-H pledge given. The roll call response was how far along am I in my project. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Wilma Alexander demonstrated how to make rolled baking powder biscuits. The meeting was adjourned with the pledge to the flag. Refreshments of jello, cookies and cool ade were served. The next meeting will be held at the Parr school on July 27 at 7:30 p.m. Gillam The Gillam 49’ers held a meeting at the home of Jack Stevens, July 13. The roll call response Good Safety Practices. There was a discussion held on the tour, July 27. That was all that was discussed. We have played 2 softball games and won both. Sunday, July 10, we played South Barkley and won with a score of 18 to 15. Saturday, July 16, we played Newton and won with a score of 6 to 7. Kum-Join-Us The fifth meeting of the girls Kum-Join-Us Club was held at Bonnie Wuerthner’s July 15 at 1:30. The roll call response was our “Favorite Trip.” There were 7 members and 2 visitors present. There were two demonstrations given. One on Baking by Bonnie and the other on Food Preparation by Sue. There were games played and refreshments served by the hostesses. The next meeting will be held July 29 at 1:30, CST., with Kristal Jackson and Carol Guetwein as hostesses. Modern Priscilla The Modern Priscilla 4-H club met at the home of Emily Trulley, July 19. The meeting was called to order by our president, Pat Hite. There were 11 members and 10 visitors present. Everyone answered the roll call with favorite joke. Songs were led by Norma Hite, Carol Culp. Lillian Holmes and Mrs. John Pettet sang a duet, “Whispering Hope.” Nancy Yeoman gave the pledge to the American Flag, Carol Culp gave the pledge to the 4-H flag. Moi’e money was donated to the care package, to Europe. Pat Hite gave a demonstration on “A School Lunch” and Helen Lewis gave a demonstration on “Contents of the Sewing Box.” Piano Solo’s “Seepyhead” and ‘Til Take You Home Again, Kathleen” by Judy Pettet. A safety Hint was given by Nancy Yeoman. Refreshments were served by Emily Trulley. The meeting was adjourned at 4:30. Klover Leaf Club The Klover Leaf Club met July 19 at Rensselaer on a swimming trip with Mrs. Duggleby and Mrs. Miller in charge. A few factories were visited: Peerless Cothes Cleaning Factory, Sewing factory, where they make raincoats and sun dresses. We went through the Jasper County News. Each of the girls received a metal with Tefft Klover Leaf club printed upon it. There are a few other factories we went through. In the morning we went swimming for an hour. At noon we ate our lunch in a park. Everyone had a nice time. The next meeting will be August 2 at the schoolhouse. Busy Fingers , The Busy Fingers club met on July 20 at the home of Beverly and Deanna Pekech with 18 members present. The meeting was called to order by our president, Jeannette Allen. Roll call was answered by givng our pet peeve. We discussed what to have at our picnic. All the parents of j every member in our club is in-
vited to our picnic. Our new assistant leader is Mrs. Andy Allen. Mrs. Allen explained a great deal about our books and helped each and everyone of us with our books. We founds out that we are to have our exhibit on August 4, at the Kniman School Gym. Recreation and refreshments were enjoyed by all. The next meeting will be at the home of Barbara Terpstra. Beverly Pekech gave a demonstration on Home Improvement. Busy Lassies The last meeting of the- Busy Lassies 4-H club was held at the home of Carol and Barbara Griffin on Wednesday, July 20. The flag pledges were recited and roll call was answered by our favorite food. It was answered by 9 members and 2 visitors. Carol
Griffin demonstrationed the different things we use in making cup cakes. Barbara Griffin demonstrated how to use a pattern for making a slip. Our books were checked. Refreshments were served and games were played. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ruck and four children of Bedford, Indiana, visited the Curtins and Watsons last Thursday. Mr. Ruck is a former DeMotte high school teacher. Mr .and Mrs. Paul Bauman and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Abbring attended the Railroad fair in Chicago last Thursday. Miss Helen Zeck and Mr. A. Pizarek of Michigan City visited her parents, the Frank Zecks last Monday evening.
