EXTENSIVE REPAIRS AT LAKE CO. FAIR GROUNDS
More than SIO,OOO is being spent in repairs and additions to the Lake county fair grounds this year before the August 2228 program gets under way in Crown Point. Exhibitors are increasing in numbers, each year at the fair, and efforts are being made to porvide them adequate space for all of them in 1949, N. E. Leep of Highland, fair board president, announced. A new addition is being built to the present hog barn, which will provide additional pens. Cost of this project is $3,000. New roofs will be put on the fine arts building, horse barn, hog, sheep, cattle, horse barns and poultry building. The new roofs will cost over $7,000. The expense of these two projects is being borne by the county in a bond issue approved by the county commissioners and the county council. The fair board is spending also to make improvements to the grounds. Gravel has already been spread in the open area north east of the fine arts building to provide a good location for the farm mechanical exhibit. Leep said the fair board is continuing to make plans for the county’s biggest show—the fair—and that it has been meeting regularly eaeh week to discuss progress. “Last year’s fair was tops,” Leep recalled, “but the 1949 fair will overshadow it, and it will be the top entertainment in Indiana during August. “Lake county’s fair has a reputation of being ‘a little state fair’ with good entertainment, exhibits, and a place where the entire family can have a lot of fun.” Mr. and Mrs. Henry DeYoung of Chicago visited Mr. and Mrs. Otto DeYoung Sr., last Saturday.
