MANY PREMIUMS OFFERED AT LAKE COUNTY FAIR
Premiums offered entrants at the Lake County Fair August 22 to 28 at Crown Point are the highest in 89 years of the annual show. N. E. Leep, Highland, Indiana, fair board president, said $30,000 will be offered to prize winners at the seven day show. This is several thousands over last year’s offerings, Leep said, and is keeping with the fair association’s policy of increasing premiums as receipts grow at the show. As usual top cash is offered entries in the cattle classes, with a total of SIO,OOO to be divided between beef and dairy groups; with $5,500 to the dairy winners and $4,500 going to top places in beef classes. One Lake county fair event being boosted more and more in recent years is the horse pulling contest. This year SB4O in prizes are to be awarded. Top award will go to the team winner in the “heavyweight” class teams weighing more than 3,000 pounds. Owner of this team will receeive a SIOO award. Another “top” Lake county fair show is the 4-H exhibits with $5,000 set aside for the youthful entrants. The Sunday horse show itself will provide awards of $2,500 in addition to cash awards in the pulling battle, and horse judging
entries will compete for $2,400. Other classes and awards offered include hog show, $1,560; sheep, $750; poultry, $1,200; pigeons, $300; rabbits, $300; canning exhibits, S9OO and wheat and oats, S4OO. Persons wishing to secure entry blanks in any of these classes or desiring information concerning details in these contests should contact George Neises, fair board secretary, Crown Point, Indiana. Miss Kate Anderson of Chicago spent the week-end with her parents. Eddie White and Bill Mullins of Hebron attended the air show at Chicago Sunday.
Mr. Tom Tomzack ,who recently underwent a double hernia operation at Jasper county hospital is able to be down town again. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ruch of Milford, Indiana, spent the holiday week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Punter. Mrs. Minnie Foy and son of New Richmond, Indiana, visited her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hazlett last week.
Miss Helen Zeck of Michigan City visited home folks over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Otto DeY’oung and children were in Indianapolis last Wednesday.
