Home Economics Clubs
The Rensselaer Home Economics club met at the home of Mrs. E.E. Hoeppner at 2:00 p.m. on June 10, the hostess being assisted by Mrs. Gerald Vincent, Mrs. J. V. Brushahan and Mrs. J. W. Sage. Mrs. Amsler, president, conducted the business meeting and discussed the arrangement necessary for the both at the fair, also the program for achievement day as there will be no regular meeting in July and August. Mrs. Cletus Kohley and Mrs. Dick Slaughter, leaders presented the lesson on preparing and packaging foods for freezing, also showing types of containers recommended for locker storage. This information was very timely and practical, and the club thanks 1 the leaders for giving of their time in bringing it to us. Refreshments of chiffon strawberry pie and coffee were served by the hostesses. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Harley Bruce, September 8. North Newton The North Newton Cozy Homemakers met with Mrs. Charles Waymouth with Mrs. Wm. Steinke assisting. Our June meeting was opened by all of us singing the song of -the month. Roll call was answered by “Your Best Toast”. There were many good ones, I’m sure we will now have a variety. Minutes were read of the last meeting. There were 18 present. Several things were discussed. We did some planning for the picnic to be held in July. A lesson was given on Freezing Foods by Mrs. John Bachelder and Mrs. Ray Phares. After a delicious lunch served by our hostesses we adjourned to meet at the picnic next month, July 21, at the Lafayette Park. South Marion Homemakers The South Marion Homemakers met on June 16 at the home of Mrs. Harry Shoemaker, with Mrs. Richard Potts and Mrs. Fred Tyler assistant hostesses. There were 19 members present. After the luncheon, the meeting was opened by our president Mrs. Helen Epler. Mrs. Meyers and Mrs. Wagner led the singing. Mrs. Bertha Epler and Mrs. Helen Wheeler gave the lessoon on Frozen Foods which everyone enjoyed very much. Mrs. Frances Gwin won . the hostess prize, a lively hand painted towel. Our textile painting leader, Mrs. Tyler will exhibit textile painting at the fair, and will be there one day to demonstrate textile painting to anyone who wishes to learn. The WSCS of McCoysburg is printing a cook book, and asked for three of four of your favorite receipts and your picture to be printed in this cook book. Please bring these to the next meeting with Louise Buskin,- Mrs. Ross Buskin and Mrs. Louise Parkison hostesses. South Morion Home Economics The South Marion Home Economics club met June 16 at the home of Mrs. Effie Daugherty with 17 members and 3 visitors present. The club me.eting was conducted in the usual manner with singing and pledge to the flag. Mrs. Reba Putts read the club creed. Mrs. Coen and Mrs. Hensler gave an instructive lesson on freezing foods showing containers and wrapings for all sorts of vegetables and meats. Mrs. Coen demonstrated the preparation for garden peas. .There, will be a picnic on the 14th in the Tourist Park. Members should bring juice for cold drink. The August meeting will be held at the home of Reba Putts. Nell Uuers and Cora Humes will be assist-
ants. The hostesses gift were won by Mrs. Thurlow, Fannie Daugherty and Mrs. Coen. Mrs. Ross porter received the guest prize. Kniman The Kniman Home Economic club met at the home of Mrs. Luther Meyers with Mrs. Vaughn as co-hostess. The meeting opened by singirfg the song of the month, the pledge to the flag and the creed were in unison. Roll call answered by giving your, pet peve. The true and flase quize on ‘ How Much .Do I Know About Home Freezing was worked out by each member. Then Mrs. William Bricker gave the lesson on preparing foods for freezing, and demonstrated different kinds of cartons used to pack foods in to be frozen. A social hour followed with Mrs. Clarence Stowers winning the contest prize and Mrs. Patricia, a visitor, winning the hostess prize. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Joseph Jachim with*Mrs. Walter Mak as co-hostess on July 21. Jolly Homemakers June 22, with Mrs. Gordon SuthThe Jolly Homemakers met on erland with 9 members and 1 visitor present. The club-asked for volunteers to go out to the fair to take lessons or give lessons on Textile Painting. Mrs. John Fellmy and Mrs. Roy Davis will be our clubs representatives. Our president read a letter about Acheivement Day which will be held Thursday, October 20. Mrs. Robert Shumaker resigned from the club because of ill health. Mrs. Roy Davis gave the lesson on Frozen Foods. She demonstrated how to prepare and freeze rhubarb. Mrs. Williams Chambers and Mrs. Merrill Alexander received aniversary cards from their silent friends. Mrs Albert Davis received the hostess gift of a plastic butter dish. Mrs. Roy Davis will give the lesson on Textile Painting at her home, Friday,

July 1. Refheshments were served by our hostess, Mrs. Gordon Sutherland. The next meeting will be July 27 at the home of Mrs. Ralph DeMoss, 121 Elm St. South Union The South Union Home Economics club met at the home of the McDonald Sisters Wednesday, June 22, with ten members and 3 children present. The history of the song of the month was read by Agatha Hordeman and the music was played by Neva Lakin. The business of the meeting was discussed. The club voted in favof of a cash prize for Achievement Day. The lesson on “Frozen Foods” was given, by Feral Comer. The club decided to do textile painting after a picnic dinner at the July meeting as this lesson is to be the exhibit at the fair. Committees were appointed for the fair exhibits and for achievement day. Fair Committee is Mrs. Louis Shaw and Mrs. Max Comer. Achievement Day committee is Agatha Hordeman and Mrs. Shelby Comer. The meeting was closed by repeating the collect and a prayer by Mrs. Witham. Refreshments were served.
The Keener Home Ec. Club will meet Friday, July 1. at the home of Mrs. Herman Heimlich. The second part of the frozen foods lesson will be given. Dr. and Mrs. O’Neill of Rensselaer and Mr. and Mrs. John Konovsky spent Sunday and Monday in Chicago.
