SHERIFF DIES

Hartford City, June 23. Blackford county Sheriff Gerland Uptegraft died today of bullet wounds received Monday night in a gun duel with an ex-convict who was killed by other officers. Uptegraft, critically wounded in the back, died at Blackford county hospital at 9:30 a.m. despite several blood transfusions.
