LIONS ARE STILL UNTAMED

Although they are one game short of having, played in as many games as some of the other teams, local Lions Club softball team is at present leading the league with two victories and no defeats. All of the remaining seven teams in the league have been defeated at least once. Manager Ramp will next sic’ his man-eating gang onto A 1 Terpstrfr’s First Reformed nine, Friday, June 17, the latter team having won one and lost one for their two games played to date. Van Keppel’s American Legionnaires were the latest victims to be clawed by the Lions Clubbers, taking a close 7-5 defeat last Friday night. The Lions, incidentally, present a line-up of so-call-ed old timers, such as Abbring, Nuss, Schultz, and Bormann, plus the two youngsters, Boissy and Jabaay; and in between these extremes there is capable help coming from Prochno, Harring, and Moolenaar. In the second game Friday the luckless Scouts lost to First Reformed, 9-8, their second loss by the same score. And again it was a case of a rally that came too late, so for as the Scouts were concerned, their last inning six-run splurge still not being big enough. On last Tuesday night the rain obligingly held off to permit the usual two games to be played, even hough the diamond was somewhat wet in spots. Christian Reformed continued its winning ways, despite the absence of some of Us regular line-up, and edged out the Fir* 7-8, giving the latter its first defeat. In the second game the American Legion lost, its third straight game, this time to American Reformer, 10-9, in a close finish that for a moment seemed to point the way to some extra innings. J. Kaluf and H. Ruisaard for American Reformed, and G. Nannenga and A. Bormann for the Legion made up good battery combinations, and they were usually wellsupported by their respective teammates. Games scheduled for this coming Friday are: Methodist vs Boy Scouts and Lions vs First Reformed. League Standings W. L. Pet.
