RICHARD EVERS OBITUARY
Mr. Richard Evers, the son of Cornelius and Alice Evers, was born in The Netherlands, December 16, 1875. He died at his home near Valparaison June 1, 1949 at the age of 74 years, 5 months 14 days. He came to this country with his parents when he was about five years old. He was married to Miss Jennie Stahl in 1897. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive. His first wife died in 1909. He was married in 1910 to Miss Margaret Merritt. To this union nine children were born all of whom survive. He came to the DeMotte community with his parents when he was eighteen. After being here a year they moved to the Otis Ranch where he and his parents worked for a number of years. He was a farmer and spent most of his life in this community, loved and respected by his neighbors and many friends. He was an industrious worker and a good citizen in the community, always sharing in the enterprises of the community. In his earlier years he was associated with the First Reformed Church. About seven years ago he moved to the place near Valparaiso which has* been his home since. Death came quite suddenly and unexpectedly. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Margaret Evers, four daughters, Mrs. Catherine Vander Ploeg of DeMotte, Mrs. Lilliam Rose of Valparaiso and Verna and Vera Margaret at home; and nine sons'; Neal, John and Laurence of DeMotte, Thomas of near Valparaiso, Richard of ’’errilville, Edward of Valparaiso, Richard with the U. S. Army in Germany, and Emmett and Ralph at home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Charles Knipp of DeMotte; and three brothers, Florence and Cornelius of DeMotte and John of Highland Park, 111. There are 18 grandchildren. Besides these there are a npmber of nieces and nephews. Besides the relatives he will be missed by his wide circle of friends and neighbors, who have known and loved him through the years. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in DeMotte, Saturday afternoon, with Rev. W. D. Archibald in charge. Burial was in DeMotte cemetery.
