Fined $50 In ‘Carving Case’
Arnett Pleads Guilty To Charge Of Doing “Embroidering Work” (With Knife) On Minix Stomach Mr. Cletus Arnett left the county jail house this morning and visited Mayor William H. Bahler, before whom he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault and battery upon the person of Wise Minix, one of his fellowmen of the onion country. Present for the proceedings was Robert Wright, county prosecutor. After hearing the guilty plea, Mayor Bahler wiped the perspiration from his glasses and tonelessly announced to the said Arnett that it would cost him the sum of SSO, plus $lO costs for having invaded the stomach precincts of one Wise Minix a week ago last Sunday. The specific charge was that Arnett did “embroidery work” with a knife in order to gain entrance to the Minix stomach. Cleatus paid, or rather his paw did. The elder Arnett said he would take Cleatus back to his old Kentucky home. Among those gathered for the trial was Wise Minix himself. There seemed to be no animosity in the atmosphere. Rather there was a current of cordiality in the air. Minix went to the hospital in Winamac for repairs after he and Arnett had engaged in an early sabbath morn brawl, with knives as their weapons. It was alleged Minix provoked the quarrel by sticking his car sidewise across a road so that Arnett’s car could not pass. After the carving had been performed, the officers were able to learn almost nothing about the case. It seemed nobody “didn’t know nothing.” After the fracas was over Arnett was wearing plumage in the form of a knife wound above one of his eyes, which quite obviously he did not inflect upon himself. Maybe it was a case of “six of one and a half-dozen of t’other.”
