HOWARD HIESTAND RE-AP POINTED TO CONSERVATION

Governor Henry F. Schricker Wednesday appointed three new members to the state Conservation Commission and renamed the fourth —a Republican. Howard Hiestand, of Kentland, former joint representative from Jasper and Newton counties, originally named by Governor Ralph F. Gates, was reappointed. New members are Roger D. Branigan. Lafayette lawyer and World War 11 veteran, a Democrat James M. Tucker, Paoli lawyer, World War II veteran and one-time Republican Secretary of State, and Oran Ax, Jasonville farmer and a Democrat. Branigan, a native of Franklin, •was permanent chairman of the 1948 Democartic state convention. He has been active in party affairs many years and has been mentioned as a possible candidate for U. S. senator in 1950. Tucker was elected Secretary of State in 1938, serving two terms. He served in the Navy and in 1944 lost the senatorial nomination to Homer E. Capehart.
