1 Jailed, 1 In Hospital After Knife Fight
Cletis Arnett of Rensselaer RFD No. <> is in Jasper county jail and Wise Minnix is a patient at Carneal hospital in Winamac as a result of a knife battle in which the two allegedly engaged on a highway about three miles north of Gifford at seven o’clock Sunday morning. Minnix is reported to be in a very serious condition from abdominal slashes so deep the entrails showed. Arnett also shows evidence of a knife wound with a slash above the eye which narrowly missed penetrating the eyeball. No charge will be filed against Arnett until the investigating officers can learn more about the alleged fight between the men. Officers thus far have been able to learn only a few of the details of the fight. Arnett’s story's, which it is believed will be backed by some eyewitnesses, is that he acted in self-defense. Minnix will be questioned this afternoon If his, condition will permit. Officers were not permitted to question him yesterday. Arnett was brought to jail here by Sheriff Webb and State Trooper Ford. He offered no resistance. Sheriff Webb was told by some eyewitnesses that Minnix placed his car across the highway and would not let Arnett pass, which resulted in the fight. Both Minnix and Arnett were accompanied by other parties, the names of all of whom have not yet been learned.
