Hog Prices Drop 75c To $1
Retail Bacon, Ham Costs Tumble Five Cents At Indianapolis Hog prices broke from 75 cents to §1 on the Indianapolis market again yesterday taking some retail pork prices along with them. Continuing a week’s-long downward trend good and fancy porkers skidded to a top of $18.25, the lowest price paid here since OPA days, while heavier animals plunged to as low as $13.50 a hundredweight. Good light and medium weight hogs were selling at only 25 cents to '51.25 above the support level pledged by the government. Meanwhile wholesalers said bacon and ham had dropped around 5 cents a pound under last week’s selling prices. Some retailers however said pork loin prices had . gone., up., a penny yesterday and that a rise in the price of pork chops was due at week’s end.
