Former Kniman Lady Dies At Hammond Today

Miss Etha Middelkamp Passes Away Of Heart Complications; Rites To Be Held Saturday Miss Etha Marie Middelkamp, for many years a resident of Kniman and who for the past five years had resided in Munster, with her sister, Mrs. Anna Rohde, died at St. Margaret’s hospital in Hammond at 4:40 o’clock this Wednesday morning. She had been ill only five days. Her death was caused by heart complications. She is a sister of William E. Middelkamp of Rensselaer and John Middelkamp of Kniman. Other immediate survivors include another brother, Frank Middelkamp, of Buchanan, Mich., the sister at whose home she died, and several nieces and nephews, in addition to a great many friends. Prior to going to Munster Miss Middelkamp lived in the Kniman vicinity for many years. She was a practical nurse by occupation, in which work she was still engaged at Munster. Miss Middelkamp was born at Winona, Minn., March 9. 1874, the daughter of Henry Middelkamp, a native of Germany, and Marie (Beneke) Middelkamp. It was during her early life the family moved to Jasper county. Miss Middelkamp was widely known in northern Jasper county. She was a lady whose character commanded the respect of everyone. The pronounced kindness and consideration she displayed in the homes of her patients furthered the general esteem in which she was held. Her death came as a great shock to the many who had enjoyed her friendship through many years. Miss Middelkamp was a member of Saint John’s Luthern church of near Parr, with which church she united in her early life. The services were held from the church at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon with the Rev. W. R. Vandre in charge. Interment will be at Kniman Luthern cemetery. The remains - are at Todd’s Funeral Home in DeMotte.
