HEAVY FINE
Plymouth, April 6. A fine of $1,250 for hauling six and a quarter more tons of candy than the law allows today faced James M. Cooper, Kannapolis, N. C., truck driver. Cooper was arrested here on a charge that he violated a law passed by the 1949 General Assembly, which assesses a fine of 10 cents for each pound of overweight. The North Carolina driver unloaded the overweight portion of his load and continued his trip to Kannapolis. He is a driver for the Central Motor Lines. Cooper posted bond of $1,250. Mrs. Frank DeHaan and Mrs. James Recker were Gary shoppers Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Otto DeYoung Jr., were Indianapolis shoppers last Thursday. Mrs. Harry DeYoung and Mrs. Fred Hoffman were in Hammond last Friday. Miss Mary Lou Ewart is home this week from her duties in South Bend, for her spring vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jager and son of South Bend visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Woudema over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Art Schoonveldt and daughter are visiting thenparents this week. It is Art’s Spring vacation from Hope College. Rev. and Mrs. James Benes of New York are here visiting relatives and friends. M iss Kate Anderson of Chicago spent the week-end with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Wienon and daughters were in Chicago last Saturday.

Livestock, Dairy Teams Are Named
Jnior Livestock and Dairy Judging Teams For County Named Following Contests Two Jasper County Junior Livestock Judging Teams were selected Wednesday morning in a county contest held at the Jerry Branson and Milt Hite farms. The first place team is four boys from Rensselaer High School, Lawrence Carter, Harold Kohley, James Siebert and Robert Wuerthner. The second team is four boys from Remington High School, Marvin Roberts, Tom Carlton, LaDonne Alberts and Dick Ulyat. These teams will represent Jasper County in the District Livestock Judging Contest to be held at Frankfort, April 20. The winners in the District contest will compete in a State Judging Meet at the 4-H club Round-up in June. Thirty-nine boys participated in the contest representing Wheatfield, Rensselaer, and Remington vocational ag departments. A. P. Nelson, Verterans Instructor at Fowler was official Judge of the livestock classes. At the Jerry Branson farm, the boys placed a ring of 4 shorthorn steers and wrote reasons for the placings. At the Milt Hite farm, a. ring of 4 aged ewes were placed and reasons written for their placings. A pen of yearling ewes were also judged. A pen of 4 sows were placed with reasons written and placings were made also on fall gilts. Marion Carter of Rensselaer was high individual with a score of 345 out of a possible 400. Marvin Roberts, of Remington, was second with a score of 336 and Harold Kohley, of Rensselaer placed third with a score of 308. The Jasper County Dairy Judging ObnteSt was held Saturday morning, April 2nd at the Ralph Amsler and Keith Paulus Farms. The teams were selected to Represent Jasper County in the District Dairy Contest to be held in Frankfort, April 20th. The first place team was 4 boys of Remington: John Murray, Loren Wilder, Glenn Stockment and Richard Knochel. Second place team was four boys from Wheatfield: Denny Conley, Wm. Pucka, Bob Burke, and Jerry Meyers. Sixteen boys representing Wheatfield, Rensselaer and Remington vocation ag departments took part in the contest.
