Wheatfield Lady Succumbs
Mrs. Clara C. Smith Dies At Hospital Here; Suffered Stroke Recently; Funeral Thursday Mrs. Clara Christine Smith, a resident of Wheatfield community for fifty years, died at Jasper county hospital at 10:15 o’clock last night following an extended period of gradually failing health. Her death was hastened by a stroke which she suffered recently. Mrs. Smith entered the local institution a week ago. Mrs. Smith was born in Forsrna. Indiana, December 9, 1872, a daughter of Nathan and Mary J. Keene. The family settled near Wheatfield during her early womanhood and that vicinity had since remained her place of residence. She moved to Wheatfield five years ago after residing in the Wheatfield rural area for forty-five years. She was married to James Smith in 1915. He passed away, in 1929. No children were born to the union. Her only family survivors are nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Albert S. Keene of Wheatfield. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Methodist church. The funeral services were conducted from the Wheatfield Assembly of God church at 1:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon with the Rev. G. E. Morris officiating. Interment was at Wheatfield cemetery. Mrs. Paul Hoffman and children of Lafayette are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stangle.
