“Americanism will be observed here, by a special patriotic program to be presented and sponsored by DeMotte Auxiliary Unit 440. The program will be given at the high school gym Tuesday, March 22nd, at 8 p.m. and will be open to the public. The principal speaker will be Harold E. Morris, immediate Past Department Commander of the Indiana Legion, who has had a tireless-and varied activity in the Legion since its conception. Morris returned from two years patrol and convoy duty in World War I to join Joliet (Ill.) Post No. 5 of the Legion, and for 32 years that he has resided in Gary has been a member of Glenn Park Post No. 214. Legionnaire Morris has served his district as vice-president of the 1940 Gary convention corporation, as Glenn Park Post Commander, First District Chaplain two terms, Northern Vice-com-mander for the year 1946-47, and is now serving as Chaplain of Post No. 214. He also served as Aumonier of Lake County Voiture No. 470 wrecking crew since its organization. Morris has been employed for the past 30 years by the Illinois Belle Telephone Company. He has served unselfishly in civic affairs on the Board of Directors of the Gary Safety Council, the City Traffic Commission and as instructor for the national American Red Cross and in Boy Scout work. He is married, and has one son, 1 Harold, who served in the Air Corps, World War 11, and is now attending Indiana University. The topic of Mr. Morris’ address will be “Christianity The Foundation of Americanism.” America owes its greatness to being built upon a strong foundation our constitution and the Bill of Rights. After a lapse of generations, Christianity again is under attack by a colossus that 1 decreases that Democracy and Communism can not live in the same world. DeMotto Auxiliary extends a most cordial invitation to all citizens of our community and their friends. It is hoped we will be honored with their presence.
HAROLDE. MORRIS
